There, his athleticism began to shine through as he played high school football as a quarterback. Even as a high school player, Reeves-Maybin made significant contributions to his team, rushing for over 2,000 yards as a senior. His remarkable performance, amassing more than 1,000 yards in three postseason games alone, earned him recognition in the form of an All-State selection on defense in 2012 by the Tennessee Sports Writers.

Following his high school football career, Reeves-Maybin took his skills to the University of Tennessee where he committed to play for the Tennessee Volunteers under head coach Butch Jones. Throughout his college football career, Reeves-Maybin was known for his exceptional tackle skills, leading his team in tackles. Injuries, however, hampered his last season of college football. Despite these challenges, Reeves-Maybin left a lasting impression on the field, pushing through his shoulder injury to make valuable contributions to his team.

After declaring his intention to enter the 2017 NFL draft, Reeves-Maybin was one of 29 collegiate linebackers to attend the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis, Indiana. Despite only having measurements taken due to a pre-existing shoulder injury, he was selected in the fourth round by the Detroit Lions. He quickly became an integral part of the team, not only as a linebacker but also as a special teamer.

Throughout his professional career, Reeves-Maybin was known for his exceptional playing on special team units. His hard work and talent saw him being invited to play in the 2024 Pro Bowl games, along with four of his Lions teammates. Additionally, he was selected to his first All-Pro team in 2023 as a special teamer and was voted as the NFC’s unique special teams player representative.
