Kenyon Green's Biography

Born on March 15, 2001, Kenyon Green was able to set a name for himself as an American professional football player. Now a respected guard for the Houston Texans in the National Football League (NFL), his journey in football began at a young age in Humble, Texas. His development and talent were nurtured at Atascocita High School, where he consecutively showcased his unique skill set. Exceeding expectations, he was highly regarded as a five-star recruit, signaling his potential for game-altering plays on the field.

Initially, Green had committed to playing college football at Louisiana State University (LSU) during his sophomore year. However, he changed course in his junior year, deciding to enroll at Texas A&M. The shift in his path provided him with the platform and space to cultivate his athletic prowess further.

Beginning his freshman year at Texas A&M, Green was named the football team’s starting right guard. Not one to disappoint, he played all 13 games that season. His early-on field skills and consistent growth were recognized when he was named to the Southeastern Conference All-Freshman Team. As a sophomore, he made the switch to left guard and continued his dominant streak by starting all the Aggies’ games that season.

Green was recognized nationally as a force on the front line, receiving first-team All-American recognition from Sporting News and the Football Writers Association of America. These accolades coincided with his second-team All-American nods from Associated Press, the American Football Coaches Association, and the Walter Camp Foundation. This level of recognition tied him with BYU’s Brady Christensen and solidified Kenyon as a consensus All-American selection.

In his junior year, Green transitioned to the position of offensive tackle. His moving across the line didn’t dampen his performance or reputation. He continued to receive first-team All-America honors from Sporting News, Associated Press, CBS Sports, and USA Today, proving his versatility and skill no matter the positional change. His talent did not go unnoticed as he went on to become a finalist for the renowned Lombardi Award, barely losing to Michigan’s Aidan Hutchinson.

After his fruitful junior year, Green made the pivotal decision to forgo his remaining year of eligibility and enter the 2022 NFL draft. Fatefully, the Houston Texans selected him with the 15th overall pick. Green used his rookie season to showcase his talent and continued to represent himself well in the highly competitive league.

Even in his first professional season, Green was able to play in 15 games, starting in 14 of them. His rookie performance led him to a Pro Football Focus grade of 37.7. However, of 77 graded guards, he was placed at the 77th spot. His varied rookie season came with its ups and downs, including occasions where he allowed 47 quarterback pressures, including four sacks and 12 quarterback hits, and committed 12 penalties.

In the following year, on August 29, 2023, he met with a setback after suffering a shoulder injury in the final preseason game. This led to him being placed on injured reserve. Despite his early professional career roller-coaster, Green’s determination coupled with his impressive skill-set and significant college career has set him to be a player to look out for in the NFL.
