Case Keenum

Casey Austin Keenum, born on February 17, 1988, is an acknowledged American professional football quarterback. Keenum’s journey with football began in high school, where he played at Wylie High School in Abilene Texas. He brilliantly passed for 6,783 yards and 48 touchdowns and rushed for 41 touchdowns and 2,000 yards for the Bulldogs. As a testament to his skills, in 2004, he led them to a 17-14 victory in the Texas Class 3A Division I Championship.

His college years were spent playing for the University of Houston. The senior Kevin Kolb led the Cougars when Keenum joined in 2006, and he spent his first year as a redshirt. However, as a starter for seven out of thirteen games in 2007, he showcased his strengths. He threw for 2,259 yards, with 14 touchdowns and a pocket presence that later led the coaching staff to prefer him as the regular quarterback over Joseph.

While playing for the Cougars from 2007-2011, Keenum ruled national ranks, broke records, and won multiple awards. In fact, following the 2008 season, Keenum won his first Conference USA Offensive Player of the Year award. He then led the Cougars to a 10-4 record in 2009, earning him his first Sammy Baugh Trophy. In the 2011 season, he further received the Conference USA Most Valuable Player award and added another Sammy Baugh Trophy to his collection. Remarkably, by the end of his college career, he held the NCAA distinction for most career completions, career passing yards, and total offensive yards.

Keenum signed as an undrafted free agent with the Houston Texans in 2012. In his starting season with the Texans in 2013, he threw for 1,760 yards and nine touchdowns. However, he was waived before the 2014 season and signed instead to the St. Louis Rams’ practice squad. Later in 2014, Keenum was signed back on the Texans, where he finally achieved his first NFL game-winning season.

Keenum was re-signed by the Rams in 2015, who then relocated to Los Angeles. Now known as the Los Angeles Rams, the team traded a draft pick to the Texans to claim Keenum as their quarterback. This turned out to be a turning point in Keenum’s career.

In 2017, he signed with the Minnesota Vikings. Following an injury to the starter, Sam Bradford, Keenum had a powerful career year. His contribution led the Vikings to 13 wins in the regular season and a famous last-second victory over the New Orleans Saints, now known as the Minneapolis Miracle. Post his stint with the Vikings, Keenum moved around, playing for the Denver Broncos, Washington Redskins, Cleveland Browns, and the Buffalo Bills.
