Carlos Ulberg is an MMA fighter from Auckland, New Zealand. He currently fights in the UFC’s middleweight division. Ulberg began his martial arts training at a young age, studying kung-fu and kickboxing before transitioning to mixed martial arts. After having success in local MMA promotions, he was signed by the UFC in 2019 following a successful stint as an amateur competitor.
Ulberg made his professional debut with the organization at UFC Fight Night 166 against Jamahal Hill on December 7th of that year. Although he lost the fight via unanimous decision, it was evident that he had talent and potential to become a top contender within his weight class.
Since then, Ulberg has remained active on the regional scene while continuing to make strides towards becoming one of New Zealand’s top fighters in terms of both record and profile. In 2020 alone, he fought five times: twice for Australia’s Hex Fight Series promotion (winning both contests via first-round submission) and three times for Bellator (winning twice).
Ulberg’s impressive performances led him back into UFC competition this past March when he faced Danilo Marques at UFC 259; though Marques took home a unanimous decision victory over him after three rounds of action, it was still another strong showing for Carlos who proved again that he can compete with some of today’s best middleweights despite not having any experience fighting at such high levels prior joining the organization less than two years ago.
Overall throughout his career so far, Carlos Ulberg has shown himself to be one of the most promising up-and-coming talents out there today; his tenacity inside the cage combined with natural athleticism give him all tools necessary to continue improving upon each performance as time goes on until eventually reaching title contention level status soon enough if given continued opportunities inside world’s most prestigious MMA promotion – Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).
