Nolan Turner Bio
Nolan Turner is a former NFL safety and current college football coach. As of October 1, 2026, Clemson lists Turner as its safeties coach, a position he assumed in January 2026. He is not listed on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ current roster; his NFL playing affiliation was with Tampa Bay in 2022, and Clemson states that he left the organization in August 2023 before pursuing coaching full-time.
Born November 29, 1997, Turner is from Vestavia Hills, Alabama. He stands 6 feet 1 inch tall and played safety. He began his college career at Presbyterian before walking on at Clemson, where he became a team captain and an important contributor on championship-contending teams. Turner earned second-team All-American recognition from the AFCA and USA Today in 2020.
Turner’s playing style was built around disciplined coverage, physical tackling and situational awareness. One of his defining college moments came when he intercepted Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields in the 2019 Fiesta Bowl, helping Clemson secure the victory. After his playing career, Turner returned to Clemson in staff and player-development roles, eventually moving into coaching the safeties. His background as a Clemson captain and former professional defensive back informs his emphasis on preparation, communication and defensive fundamentals.
