Baker Mayfield

Baker Mayfield is an American professional football player who currently plays in the National Football League (NFL) for the Cleveland Browns. He was born on April 14, 1995 to James and Gina Mayfield in Austin, Texas. He grew up playing a variety of sports including soccer, basketball, baseball and football as well as participating in track & field events throughout high school.

Mayfield attended Lake Travis High School where he played varsity football from 2009-2011. During his time at the school he won numerous awards such as two district championships and being named to the All-District Team each year. After high school graduation he enrolled at Oklahoma State University where he transferred after his freshman year to Texas Tech University where he led them to several wins over ranked opponents during his two years there before finishing his collegiate career with The University of Oklahoma in 2017.

At Oklahoma Mayfield became one of college football’s most celebrated players breaking multiple records which included highest efficiency rating for any QB in NCAA history (196). His success earned him several honors which include Heisman Trophy Winner (2017), Walter Camp Award Winner (2017), Big 12 Offensive Player Of The Year (2015 & 2017) and Davey O’Brien Award winner (2017). Despite all these accolades NFL teams were still hesitant about taking a chance on him due to some questionable off-field incidents leading up to draft day 2018 when Cleveland Browns general manager made what many considered a bold move by taking Baker first overall making him the first walk-on ever selected No 1 overall pick in NFL Draft history.

In his rookie season with the Browns Baker showed why many scouts believed that despite not having ideal size or arm strength he could be successful by displaying tremendous accuracy completing 63% of passes for 3,725 yards 27 touchdowns 14 interceptions while also rushing 310 yards 5 touchdowns showing determination and enthusiasm all season long earning him AP Offensive Rookie Of The Year award becoming only second Brown rookie quarterback behind Bernie Kosar do so since 1986 . In 2020 under new head coach Kevin Stefanski system Mayfield showcased why hes franchise quarterback going 10 -5 during regular season setting club record throwing 37 passing TDs while improving completion percentage from 2019 leading team into playoffs after 11 year drought earning himself Pro Bowl invitation along way .

As of 2021 it looks like Baker has finally found home Cleveland scene giving fans hope that maybe this is year they can reach Super Bowl for first time since 1964 . Although there are still some critics out there who thinks Browns took wrong player back 2018 but no one can argue fact that mayfields passion intensity combine physical tools make him one most exciting dual threat quarterbacks league today capable carrying team deep into playoffs something have been missing city Ohio nearly 60 years now .
