Ben Bredeson

Benjamin Bredeson, popularly known as Ben Bredeson, was born on the 20th day of February 1998, he is renowned for his skill and dexterity as an American professional football guard, currently performing his on-field prowess with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, a prominent team participating in the National Football League (NFL).

Before turning professional, Ben showcased his outstanding ability in football at the University of Michigan where he shone brightly as an All American choice. There, his talents were evident, leading him to be handpicked by the Ravens in the 2020 NFL draft, a testament to his distinguished college career.

Born into an athletic family, Ben is the son of former Illinois State Center, Mike Bredeson, and has two younger brothers: Jack and Max Bredeson. His formative years were marked by regular attendance at Arrowhead High School where he laid the groundwork for an illustrious career in College and ultimately the NFL.

His athletic journey advanced significantly at Arrowhead High School, where, as a freshman, he broke into the varsity team. Indeed, his skill propelled him up the ranks quickly, as by the time he was a junior, he had already become a first-team All-State selection. Bredeson’s accolades didn’t slow down as he matured in the game; his senior year was even more remarkable: he was once again named an All-State first-team member, received first-team All-American honors by MaxPreps and USA Today, and was also trigged for awards such as the Joe Thomas – given to the top offensive lineman in the state of Wisconsin, and the Gatorade Player of the Year for Wisconsin.

The range of honors received during his high-school years prepared him for national recognition, leading to an invitation to the prestigious 2016 Under Armour All-America Game, which he participated in as one of the top-rated high school seniors.

The success of his high school career led to a flood of scholarship offers, with 17 institutions expressing interest. However, after carefully considering the options, Bredeson eventually narrowed his selection down to Alabama, Michigan, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Stanford, and Wisconsin before finally committing to the Michigan Wolverines on the 17th of June 2015.

At the University of Michigan, Bredeson’s role switched from being an offensive tackle to a guard, a position he hadn’t played during his high school career. His switch did not affect him adversely; rather, he improved steadily. He was named to the All-Big Ten offensive second-team by both coaches and the media following the seasons of 2017 and 2018. His consistent performances were finally rewarded in the 2019 season when he appeared in the All-Big Ten offensive first-team while both coaches and media voted for him. That same year, Walter Camp Football Foundation recognized him as a Second-team All-American.

This glowing reputation was not left unnoticed; it led the Baltimore Ravens to draft Bredeson in the fourth round (143rd overall) during the 2020 NFL draft. In his rookie season, he played in 10 games, majorly as a backup and occasionally featured in special teams. He experienced some moments on the bench, however, and was not in action for weeks 1-3, 6-7, and week 10. It was also during this rookie season he got his first taste of time on injured reserve.

In August 2021, Bredeson made a move in his career signing to the New York Giants. His first outing for the Giants was during week 2 opposite the Washington football team, substituting for the injured Nick Gates. A following week, he made his first career start against the Atlanta Falcons but unfortunately got his hand injured during the game, ruling him out for the following week’s game against the New Orleans Saints.

Bredeson equally marked his first start as the Giants’ leading left guard during the first week of the 2022 season after Shane Lemieux got injured during the preseason game. His run was cut short on the 29th of October 2022 after suffering a knee injury that placed him on injured reserve. He remained inactive till December 17th when he was reactivated.

In the 2023 season, Bredeson began as the starting left guard after successfully competing with Joshua Ezeudu during training camp. By October 15th, he was moved to right guard upon the signing of Justin Pugh to the Giants.

On March 15th 2024, Bredeson made his latest move, signing with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers where he continues to adorn his career with hard work and dedication. Over the years, Bredeson proved himself as an unyielding and competent player within the sport, earning respect in the heart of his colleagues, coaches, and the rest of the NFL. His story is one of resilience, determination, and passion for the game of American Football.
