BIOGRAPHY
Max Griffin, also known as “Pain” by his fans and peers, is an American mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter currently competing in the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s (UFC) Welterweight division. Although born in Oakland, California, Griffin was raised primarily in Sacramento where he began training at a young age. His father was a kickboxer who had local success and taught Max the fundamentals of combat sports.
Growing up with his father’s influence led to Griffin establishing himself as one of the top Mixed Martial Arts fighters from Northern California. He has won multiple amateur championships before turning pro and making his debut with Strikeforce promotions in 2009. Over the next several years he competed for various regional MMA promotions including Shark Fights, King Of The Cage and Gladiator Challenge before landing an opportunity to compete on Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series in 2018 where he scored a first round knockout victory over Issac Vallie-Flagg to earn a UFC contract.
Griffin would make his promotional debut later that year against Elizeu Zaleski dos Santos at UFC Fight Night 137: Santos vs Anders where he suffered defeat via split decision but bounced back with unanimous decisions wins over Thiago Alves at UFC Fight Night 144; Mike Perry at UFC on ESPN 4; Ramazan Emeev at UFC 232; Zelim Imadaev at UFN 142: Lewis vs Oleinik and Anthony Hill during UFN 154: Blaydes vs Volkov which earned him two “Performance of the night” bonuses along the way.
In 2020 Griffin took part in what is widely considered one of the best fights of 2021 thus far when he faced off against Song Kenan duringUFC 248: Adesanya vs Romero which saw him suffer defeat via split decision yet again despite having controlled most of fight thanks to superior grappling technique displayed from both men throughout three rounds . As it stands Max Griffin has gone 6-4 since joining UFC roster , earning numerous titles & accolades along the way such as being named “Most Outstanding Fighter” by Wrestling Observer Newsletter for 2019 & “Fight Of The Year Candidate” for 2021 by Sherdog . Regardless of outcome , Pain continues to give entertaining fights each time out inside Octagon ; leaving no doubt why HIM is considered one OF THE BEST welterweights IN today’s MMA world !
