BIOGRAPHY

Chris Curtis is an American professional mixed martial artist currently competing in the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s Welterweight Division. He started his career fighting in regional promotions and gained success early on, becoming a World Series of Fighting welterweight champion before joining the UFC. Curtis has been active as a professional since 2010, racking up 18 wins and 5 losses in 23 bouts.

Originally from Providence, Rhode Island, Chris was born to German-Polish parents who emigrated to the United States after World War II. Growing up, he was always interested in combat sports such as boxing and judo but it wasn’t until he saw UFC 2 that he decided to take up mixed martial arts seriously. After enrolling at Team Link Gym in Massachusetts for training under renowned grappling instructor Roberto Maia, Curtis began his amateur career with local promotion New England Fights (NEF). His first amateur bout was against Mark Hallee which endedin a draw due to a doctor stoppage from excessive strikes by both competitors.

In 2012 Chris made his pro debut with NEF against Mike Winters where he won via TKO due to ground and pound at 1:09 of round one. He would go on to win four more bouts during this time period including three consecutive victories within seven weeks of each other via submission or TKO earning him recognition as “The Submission Machine”. This string of victories put him on the map leading him into title contention opportunities where he went 5-1 over the next two years until being signed by WSOF late 2015 while still maintaining an undefeated streak at 11-0

During his stint with WSOF, Chris captured their Welterweight championship when defeated Joao Zeferino via unanimous decision for five rounds before eventually losing it back during their rematch late 2017 shortly after joining UFC’s roster earlier that year when they merged operations together making them nearly identical organizations just operating under different namesakes now.. Although no longer champion status there has still been much success found throughout remaining tenure giving multiple Fight Of The Night awards along way even being nominated for Performance Of Year award 2019 following impressive first round KO victory over previously unbeaten Belal Muhammad who had never been finished like this prior going into fight!

Despite recent setbacks such as technical knockout loss Darren Till last July followed another unanimous decision defeat Leon Edwards summer 2020 compared previous outings record shows that many tough battles have come out victorious including notable wins over very formidable opponents Sabah Homasi Santiago Ponzinibbio plus many others proving ability remain competitive biggest stage MMA even though not necessarily main event fights himself… As continues move forward upcoming matches near future we can only expect see what else await future!
