BIOGRAPHY

Terrance Mitchell II, born on May 17 1992, is a notable figure in American professional football where he plays as a cornerback. He currently stands as a free agent. During his early years in Luther Burbank High School in Sacramento, California, Terrance built his athletic prowess by playing in positions such as cornerback and running back for the Burbank Titans, his school’s football team. Upon his senior year, Mitchell set a new record by securing a whopping 2,360 all-purpose yards, 48 receptions, and 24 touchdowns, earning himself the esteemed Metro League Offensive MVP honor. His superior performance in defense characterized by 6 interceptions, a forced fumble, and his ability to block a field goal earned him an All-Metro honor.

Mitchell wasn’t only skilled in football; he also played basketball and was viewed as a three-star recruit by Rivals.com. This led to him attaining the 33rd position as the greatest cornerback nationwide in 2010. Mitchell’s extraordinary talent earned him a football scholarship from the prestigious University of Oregon. During his scholarship, Mitchell maintained the starting left cornerback position where he registered 45 tackles, 2 interceptions, and 3 forced fumbles, placing him at sixth position in the Pac-12 Conference.

His sophomore and junior years in college were marked by an excellent performance where he made significant contributions to his team. In his junior year, Mitchell led his team with 5 interceptions and decided to forego his senior year and enter the NFL draft in 2014. He completed his college career with a remarkable record: 38 starts in 40 games, 144 tackles, 7 interceptions, 25 passes defensed that tied for 10th place in the school’s history, and 4 forced fumbles.

He was selected by the Dallas Cowboys in the 7th round of the 2014 NFL draft. Despite facing challenges at the NFL Combine, Mitchell secured a four-year contract with the Cowboys worth $2.265 million, including a signing bonus of $45,896. He got into bouts with Sterling Moore, B. W. Webb, Tyler Patmon, and Dashaun Phillips to secure a slot as a backup cornerback during training camp. However, the Dallas Cowboys waived Mitchell at the end of August 2014.

Shortly after, the Chicago Bears enlisted Mitchell in their practice squad, where he was later upgraded to their active roster. Mitchell showcased his talent throughout the camp in 2015, earning a reserve slot as a backup cornerback, behind Kyle Fuller, Alan Ball, and Sherrick McManis. Mitchell’s impressive preseason performance landed him a spot in the roster, overcoming Tim Jennings. However, he suffered a hamstring injury at Week 5, leading to a temporary release in mid-November to allow room for cornerback Jacoby Glenn.

Mitchell found his way back into the game when he was signed by the Cowboys to the practice squad in early December 2015. In the absence of Orlando Scandrick due to a knee injury and Tyler Patmon’s struggle, he was promoted to the active roster.

His stint with the Houston Texans after being claimed off waivers was short-lived as he was released in September 2016. Mitchell was then signed to the Kansas City Chiefs’ practice squad and later promoted to the active roster in October 2016. He was an instrumental player in 2017, making seven starts at the cornerback position and recording two interceptions in a 24-10 victory over the Los Angeles Chargers.

Mitchell moved to the Cleveland Browns in 2018 on a three-year contract valued at $12 million. Despite his exciting performance in the 2019 season, he did not play a snap in the game against the New England Patriots. His performance in the 2020 season positively impacted his team, evidenced by his 65 tackles, 3 forced fumbles, and 13 passes defensed.

Mitchell signed a two-year contract worth up to $7.5 million with the Texans on March 24, 2021. During the 2021 season, he recorded 60 tackles, 3 forced fumbles, and 10 passes. Unfortunately, he was released by the Texans on March 10, 2022, and signed to the New England Patriots on a one-year contract worth $3 million. Again, he was released on August 30, 2022, but re-signed to the practice squad the next day.

Mitchell found a new home on September 21, 2022, when he was signed by the Tennessee Titans. Unfortunately, he was placed on injured reserve on December 22.
