Brenden Schooler

Brenden Schooler is a safety and special-teams player for the New England Patriots. As of September 23, 2026, he remains under contract with New England and is listed on the team’s roster as number 41. The Patriots placed Schooler on the reserve non-football injury list during their 2026 roster transactions, so his roster status should be described as reserve-list status rather than active game availability. He is listed at 6 feet 2 inches and 210 pounds, was born on May 30, 1997, and attended the University of Texas.

Schooler entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent and signed with the Patriots on May 9, 2022. He made the team as a rookie and quickly established himself as a core special-teams contributor. His early career included notable punt-team recoveries, and he was selected to the Pro Football Writers Association All-Rookie Team after the 2022 season. Those accomplishments helped define his professional identity as a high-energy coverage player who could also provide depth at safety.

By the 2025 season, Schooler had expanded his responsibilities beyond special teams, seeing defensive action at safety and serving as a Patriots team captain for the first time. The Patriots’ team biography describes him as a pivotal special-teams player and notes his continued defensive involvement. His career path reflects the value of an undrafted player who contributes through speed, pursuit, tackling technique and consistent effort in coverage units.
