BIOGRAPHY

Abdurrahman “Rock” ibn Ramadan Ya-Sin, widely known by his nickname “Rock”, was born on the 23rd of May, 1996. Today, he is recognized as an esteemed American professional football player, who has built a solid career as a cornerback for the San Francisco 49ers of the National Football League (NFL).

Born in a humble town of Georgia, Ya-Sin didn’t always have the glitz and glamour that surrounds him today. In the early years of his life, he attended Southwest DeKalb High School in Decatur. With a raw passion for the game, Ya-Sin, despite being only a two-star recruit, was committed and determined to make his mark in the field of football. His hard work and dedication earned him a place at Presbyterian where he committed to pursuing his career on the 5th of February, 2015.

However, a sudden shift in Presbyterian’s decision to move to a non-scholarship conference in the Football Championship Subdivision led Ya-Sin to transfer to Temple in the middle of his academic tenure. This dramatic turn of events proved to be a blessing in disguise for the young player. At Temple, Ya-Sin showcased his growing football skills, recording 44 tackles, two tackles-for-loss, two interceptions, and 12 pass breakups. This brilliant performance led his selection in the 2019 Senior Bowl.

Ya-Sin’s hard work and talent were rewarded in the most significant way possible when he was drafted by the Indianapolis Colts in the second round of the 2019 NFL draft. Ya-Sin proved his worth when, in Week 11 against the Jacksonville Jaguars, he recorded his first career interception off a pass thrown by Nick Foles, leading his team to a 33–13 win. Due to his outstanding performance and display of skill, Ya-Sin was named to Pro Football Focus’ All-Rookie Team.

Perhaps reflecting his symbolic struggle through a challenging journey, Ya-Sin decided to change his jersey number to 26, stating that he desired “a new beginning”. However, this beginning stuttered slightly as he was inactive against the Minnesota Vikings in week 2 due to a stomach illness.

The football journey of Abdurrahman Ya-Sin took another turn when he was traded to the Las Vegas Raiders on March 16, 2022, in exchange for Yannick Ngakoue. In the new jersey, Rock featured in 11 games with nine starts, recording 45 tackles and seven passes defensed.

Following his stint with the Raiders, Ya-Sin was looking for new opportunities. He found one with the Baltimore Ravens, signing a one-year, $6 million deal on May 3, 2023. A year later, the San Francisco 49ers seized the opportunity to bring Rock into their fold, where he signed another impressive one-year contract on April 11, 2024.

Through his journey, Rock Ya-Sin has become an inspirational name not just in American football, but for all those who dare to dream against all odds. His story is a testament to the spirit of perseverance, discipline, and passion that has helped him to make his mark in the world of NFL. Today, as he continues to play as a professional cornerback for the San Francisco 49ers, Ya-Sin reflects the true essence of dedication and success in the sport of football.
