Jermaine Eluemunor's Biography
Jermaine Eluemunor, an accomplished English professional American football player, was born on December 13, 1994, in Chalk Farm, London, to a Nigerian father and an English mother. His journey as a sportsman started in England; however, his path was not initially set on American football. As a youth, Eluemunor found himself engrossed in Rugby and Cricket, two of the most popular sports in his home country. His course changed after watching the 2007 NFL International Series game between the Miami Dolphins and New York Giants. This event sparked an interest in American Football, a sport that would later become his career.
To further immerse himself in the world of American Football, Eluemunor relocated to the United States at the age of 14 with his father. He then started attending Morris Knolls High School in Denville, New Jersey, where he participated in football and wrestling. As an athlete who excelled in his sports, he played both offensive and defensive lines in football and recorded a commendable 33-4 record as a senior wrestler. Despite his achievements, Eluemunor found little interest from college recruiters, leading him to Lackawanna College in Scranton, Pennsylvania.
From 2012 to 2013, Eluemunor attended Lackawanna, where he showcased his talent on the gridiron, earning him a spot on the all-conference second team in 2013. His performance at Lackawanna drew the attention of 35 college programs. Initially, he was set to join UCLA, then Arkansas, but eventually committed to Texas A&M.
Upon joining the Texas A&M Aggies from 2014 to 2016, he redshirted in 2014, served as the backup right guard in 2015, and made his official career debut during the 2015 Music City Bowl. In his final year, he started 12 out 13 games, either as a right tackle or right guard. According to Eluemunor, Jim Turner, his coach at Texas A&M, was a defining figure in the development of his football prowess.
Eluemunor’s efforts paid off in 2017, where he tied the second-highest number of reps in the 225-lb bench press with 34 at the NFL Combine. Consequently, he was picked 159th overall in the fifth round of the 2017 NFL draft by the Baltimore Ravens. In his debut season, he played eight games, two as the right guard starter, earning accolades such as the Pro Football Writers of America All-Rookie Team acknowledgment.
Throughout his career, Eluemunor experienced movement with different teams. After a brief stint on the Ravens’ practice squad, he landed with the New England Patriots in August 2019 in a trade deal. Eluemunor rebounded from an ankle injury during the 2020 season to continue delivering his top form on the field.
Transitioning to newer opportunities, he joined the Miami Dolphins in June 2021, then the Jacksonville Jaguars in August 2021. However, these contracts were short-lived, leading to his signing with the Las Vegas Raiders in September 2021. His one-year stint with the Raiders marked some of his best performance days as he started 17 of the 17 games at the right tackle.
His performance led to an extension of his contract with the Raiders on March 25, 2022. Continuing his stellar performance, he played in all 17 games and started 14 during the 2023 season.
On March 14, 2024, Eluemunor signed a new two-year contract with the New York Giants. Through it all, Eluemunor’s life and career have been marked by commitment, perseverance, and a relentless drive to succeed — an arc that has seen him transform from a young boy in England to a seasoned professional football player in the NFL.
