Jakob Elijah Johnson, renowned as a stalwart in the National Football League (NFL), has built an impressive professional football career since his birth on the 15th of December in 1994. Johnson, a dual citizen of both Germany and America, currently serves as a fullback for the New York Giants.

Born as Jakob Weinmann in 1994 in the bustling city of Stuttgart, Germany, Johnson later adopted his father’s name. As a teenager, he displayed his prodigious football talent on the Stuttgart Scorpions’ U19 team before making a pivotal move across the Atlantic to Jacksonville, Florida, during his high school senior year. His talent didn’t go unnoticed, and Johnson emerged as a four-star recruit in high school.

Johnson then chose to join the Tennessee Volunteers, where he promptly carved a niche for himself as a linebacker. His college career was marked with accolades including a triumphant inclusion on the Southeastern Conference Academic Honor Roll for three consecutive seasons. Adding to his accomplishments in academics, Johnson also secured a degree in kinesiology from the University of Tennessee. During his time on campus, he joined the Omega Psi Phi fraternity thereby marking another significant milestone in his life.

Upon his graduation in 2018, Johnson returned to his roots, rejoining the Stuttgart Scorpions of the German Football League. His performance during these games was remarkable, leading to a one-year stint. He made 43 receptions and scored four touchdowns, a commendable record for a fullback.

As a testament to his potential, Johnson was handpicked for the NFL’s International Player Pathway Program, which led to his signing a professional contract with the New England Patriots in 2019. However, he was subsequently released during the final roster cuts but was quickly reassigned to the Patriots’ practice squad. A subsequent injury to James Develin propelled Johnson to be promoted from the practice squad, turning him into the first International Pathway player to be activated and subsequently participate in an NFL contest.

Overcoming a shoulder injury, Johnson continued to press ahead with his career, securing his place on the Patriots 53-man roster by the start of the 2020 NFL season. A notable high point was a one-yard touchdown reception during a Sunday Night Football game against the Seattle Seahawks, making Johnson the first International Pathway Program player to score a professional touchdown.

The Patriots retained Johnson for the subsequent season, during which he appeared in all 17 regular-season games. He was later signed by the Las Vegas Raiders in March of 2022. Despite being released at one point during 2023, Johnson was reintegrated into the active roster and was instrumental in the offense and special teams.

In 2024, Johnson experienced another turn of the wheel when he signed with the New York Giants. Although initially released, he was re-signed to the team’s practice squad, proving his resilience.

In parallel to his professional career, Johnson also dived into the business spectrum of football. In 2022, he publicly announced his investment in the American football club Stuttgart Surge, concurrently assuming the role of co-owner.
