Duron Harmon, an American football safety, was born on January 24, 1991. A free agent, Harmon’s career highlights his talents both on and off the field. His journey through the world of American football encompasses an impressive track record that highlights crucial moments with four of NFL’s well-respected teams, the New England Patriots, the Detroit Lions, Atlanta Falcons, and the Las Vegas Raiders.

Born in Magnolia, Delaware, Harmon’s football prowess was evident early on. While studying at Caesar Rodney High School in Camden, Delaware, he played high school football for the Caesar Rodney Riders. His journey took him to Rutgers University from 2009 to 2012, where he demonstrated his prowess as a safety for the Rutgers Scarlet Knights football team.

During his senior season, Harmon earned recognition as a first-team All-Big East Conference selection at safety. His college career culminated in participation in the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl. However, Harmon’s professional path was not clearly charted from the beginning as he was not among the 60 defensive backs invited to the NFL Scouting Combine.

In spite of this, Harmon persisted, performing all required combine and positional drills for scouts and team representatives from all 32 NFL teams on Rutgers’ Pro Day, March 13, 2013. Defying expectations, the New England Patriots selected him in the third round of the 2013 NFL draft. Throughout his training camp, he diligently competed for the starting strong safety job, which was left vacant by the departure of Patrick Chung. As the backup strong safety to Steve Gregory for the regular season, Harmon’s professional debut came petulantly during the Patriots’ Week 2 matchup against the New York Jets.

In his first season, Harmon demonstrated his skill and potential. His first career interception came in Week 8 in the Patriots’ 27–17 victory against the Miami Dolphins. He earned his first career start in November 2013 following Steve Gregory’s injury, showcasing his capability by recording 11 combined tackles in their victory against the Denver Broncos, and he ended the season with 31 combined tackles.

Following the departure of Steve Gregory, Harmon was expected to become the starting strong safety in 2014, however, he ended up playing as backup strong safety.
