BIOGRAPHY
Davon Montel Godchaux was brought into the world on November 11, 1994, and his life has since been dominated by his extraordinary skills and innate passion for American football. An impressive career on the field has led to him becoming a notable defensive tackle for the eminent New England Patriots, a team that is part of the National Football League (NFL), one of the major professional sports organizations in the United States.
Godchaux’s football journey began at Louisiana State University (LSU) in 2014, a college that has produced numerous NFL athletes. Over three compelling seasons, he played in 26 games for the LSU Tigers until 2016. Just three games into his first season as a true freshman, Godchaux demonstrated his exceptional abilities, consequently earning his place as a starter. Besides, throughout his time at LSU, he became a crucial member of the team, rotating positions as a defensive end within the Tigers’ 3-4 defense.
His junior year held many highlights, but his most memorable performances included recording 62 tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss, 6.5 sacks, along with one pass defensed and two fumble recoveries. His remarkable college career culminated in his decision to declare for the 2017 NFL Draft, a day after the 2016 Citrus Bowl.
Before the draft, Godchaux experienced a minor setback when he pulled a hamstring during the NFL Combine, limiting his ability to effectively complete all drills. However, that didn’t stop the Miami Dolphins from recognizing his exceptional talent. They drafted him in the fifth round, making him the 178th overall pick of the 2017 NFL Draft.
He remained with the Miami Dolphins from 2017 to 2020. The 2020 season was particularly challenging due to the Covid-19 pandemic. In August of that year, Godchaux tested positive for the virus and was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list. Thankfully, he recovered quickly and was activated from the list just two days later. Later that year, in October, he faced another challenge when he was placed on the injured reserves list due to another injury.
However, his career was heading for a turn of events as Godchaux signed a two-year contract with the New England Patriots on March 23, 2021. This marked a new chapter in his professional football journey. His consistently commendable performance led to a contract extension with the Patriots in July 2022.
As of July 31, 2024, Godchaux and the Patriots reached another significant milestone in their partnership. They agreed on a two-year contract extension, securing his place on the team for a substantial period. The deal was valued at an impressive $16.5 million, reflecting Godchaux’s increasing value and substantial contribution to the team.
But, before his remarkable college and professional football career, Godchaux’s love for the game was fostered in his native town of Plaquemine, Louisiana. He introduced his stellar performance as early as high school, where he played for Plaquemine Senior High School. As a junior in 2012, he made a notable impact by achieving 60 tackles, 22 tackles for a loss, and 4.5 sacks, earning him first-team All-State honors for Class 4A. Tragically, at the beginning of his senior year, he faced a significant hurdle – he tore his anterior cruciate ligament during the season’s opener. Despite the injury sidelining him for the rest of the season, his contributions were still recognized, and he was honored as a U.S. Army All-American, even attending the bowl game.
Godchaux’s abilities were highly sought after as he was considered a four-star recruit. ESPN ranked him the No. 22 defensive end prospect, tying him up as a highly valuable asset for most teams. Despite attractive offers from colleges like Mississippi, Auburn, and UCLA among others, he chose LSU for his college football career, marking the beginning of an exciting journey decorated with determination, resilience, and outstanding sporting prowess.
