Davion Taylor's Biography

Davion Taylor was born on August 5, 1998, in Magnolia, Mississippi. For much of his early life, he was raised by his mother, Stephanie Taylor, a devout Seventh-day Adventist. His early life was significantly influenced by his mother’s religious beliefs, which shaped much of his childhood and adolescence, and certainly impacted his trajectory as an athlete.

Taylor had an unconventional introduction to American football. Due to his family’s Seventh-day Adventist beliefs, he did not participate in high school football while attending South Pike High School. Instead, he found his passion for football in community college, after being granted permission by his mother to join the gridiron squad upon turning 18.

Davion began his higher education journey at Coahoma Community College, where he first gave football a try. However, in 2018, he transferred to the University of Colorado Boulder, eager to take on a relatively higher level of competition and further his understanding of the game.

In his first year at Boulder, he started 10 out of 12 games, boasting impressive statistics, including recording 57 tackles, one sack, and one touchdown. As a senior in 2019, he started all 12 games, recording a commendable 72 tackles and one sack.

Taylor’s football career started taking off following his college success. The Philadelphia Eagles, impressed by his performance and potential, selected him in the third round, with the overall 103rd pick, during the 2020 NFL draft. Taylor’s rookie season was cut short when he was placed on injured reserve after nursing an injury. He was cleared to return to practice by late December, but wasn’t activated before the season ended.

In the following season, Taylor showcased his skills and was given a starting role with the team during the 6th week. Sadly, his season was cut short yet again after sustaining a knee injury that led to his placement on injured reserve.

Taylor went through a turbulent period in his career between late 2022 and early 2023. He was released from the Eagles but re-signed to their practice squad soon after. This turbulent period ended in February 2023 when he was offered a reserve/future contract with the Eagles.

However, Taylor’s journey with the Eagles unexpectedly came to an end when they released him in August 2023. Wasting no time thereafter, Taylor was signed by the Chicago Bears, but was waived just a few weeks later.

After a brief stint on the Arizona Cardinals’ practice squad, which came to an end in October 2023, he was re-signed to their squad in December. He ended up not being signed to a reserve/future contract after the season, which led to his free agent status.

Taylor’s career took a significant leap in March 2024, when he signed with the Ottawa Redblacks of the Canadian Football League (CFL). This was a significant milestone for Taylor; it represented a new beginning and a chance to redefine his professional football journey.

Davion Taylor’s story is one of resilience, patience, and unwavering love for football. Throughout his career, he’s demonstrated an ability to adapt and grow, regardless of circumstances. Despite a late start due to religious restrictions, he’s forged a noteworthy career path. This tale serves as an inspiration, especially to young athletes, emphasizing on the potency of resilience, hard work, and unflenchable passion to the route to success.
