Born on January 1, 1991, Darius Demetrius Slay Jr. is an accomplished American professional football player noted for being one of the nation’s premier cornerbacks in the National Football League (NFL). Renowned for his tenacity and athletic ability on the football field, Slay has built a prosperous career, currently holding a key position with the Philadelphia Eagles. However, his journey to professional football wasn’t devoid of challenges and hurdles.

Slay was born and raised in Brunswick, Georgia and his athletic prowess was readily evident during his time at Brunswick High School. As a freshman, he showcased exceptional talent, earning First-team Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) All-State and National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) All-Region 23 honors. He eventually transferred to Mississippi State University, where he achieved 64 tackles, six interceptions, and two touchdowns in his two years playing under head coach Dan Mullen.

Following his successful college career, Slay was drafted in the second round of the 2013 NFL draft by the Detroit Lions. Early into his professional career, he underwent arthroscopic surgery to repair a torn meniscus but bounced back, earning a position as a starting cornerback for the Lions in the same year despite stiff competition. Throughout his time with the Lions, Slay showed both skill and growth, not only securing his first career interception in the fourth game of the season but also earning a four-year contract extension worth almost $50 million in 2016.
