Brett Toth

Born on September 1, 1996, Brett Toth carved a notable professional football career as a guard for the Philadelphia Eagles. His journey, marked by determination and dedication, integrated his military background into his sports persona.

Raised in Charleston, South Carolina, Toth honed his athletic prowess during his high school years at West Ashley High School. However, it was at the United States Military Academy where the foundations of his professional dream solidified. Toth pursued his academic interests, determinedly studying physics and nuclear engineering while representing his school on the football field. As a player for the US Army Black Knights, Toth made waves in his junior year where his team’s triple option offense finished second in the country. Continually proving his prowess, his senior season saw the 2017 Army Black Knights leading the nation’s offense. Beyond these on-field achievements, Toth also showcased leadership in his position as a junior ROTC instructor and later as a graduate assistant for the 2018 Black Knights.

His commitment to the West Point Military Academy initially came with a 5-year active-duty requirement, which was later shortened to 24 months during his tenure. However, the policy was further tweaked in 2017 by the US Secretary of Defense, Jim Mattis. This policy change allowed military academy graduates with professional sports prospects to delay their service assignments, enabling Toth to transition smoothly into his sports career.

In August 2019, Toth applied for a waiver while he was stationed at Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri, parallely setting his sights on the National Football League (NFL). He got his first opportunity when he signed as an undrafted free agent with the Philadelphia Eagles. Despite missing most of the training camp and two preseason games, Toth showcased resilience and adaptability, securing a three-year contract with the Eagles.

Although Toth was waived by the Eagles, his talents were noticed by the Arizona Cardinals, who claimed him at the end of the 2019 preseason. Due to health concerns, he was placed on a reserve list and was later waived by the Cardinals. However, soon after, he was once again claimed by the Eagles and made his NFL debut against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 6.

While he occasionally faced setbacks such as getting waived and suffering injuries, Toth continually returned stronger. He played a pivotal role as a center during the game against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 17, stepping up even though the Eagles rested their starters. However, a knee injury during the match put him on the injured reserve list in January 2022. The following season also brought challenges, as he was placed on different lists and dropped by the team, but Toth persisted unwaveringly.

Over his professional journey, Brett Toth had brief stints with the Carolina Panthers and the Eagles’ practice squads. Even though the Eagles had made it to Super Bowl LVII without him and suffered a loss to Kansas City Chiefs, Toth continued with his tenacious hard work. He signed his future/reserve contract on January 18, 2024, and moved forward in his career despite being released and re-signed to the practice squad a few times.
