Britain Covey

Born on March 18, 1997, Britain Covey is a prominent figure in American professional football. Famed for his roles as a wide receiver and punt returner, Covey currently plies his trade with the Philadelphia Eagles, a franchise of the National Football League (NFL). His football journey is an inspiring tale that tracks his growth from college football to the highly competitive professional sphere.

Covey’s links to Utah extend beyond his professional engagements. His early years were spent in Provo, Utah, where he attended Timpview High School. In this period of his life, Covey displayed an impressive array of skills that spoke volumes of his promising future in football. Not only did he excel academically, but he also led the high school football team to an unblemished 26-0 record in his two years as quarterback. In this role, he demonstrated an extraordinary proficiency at passing and rushing, managing to amass 4492 passing yards with 56 touchdowns and 2904 rushing yards with 44 touchdowns. These achievements propelled him to be ranked fourth in Utah’s all-time touchdowns.

In addition to his on-field exploits, Covey’s contributions to his community also gained recognition. His 2015 achievement as an Eagle Scout with the Utah National Parks Council highlighted his commitment to service and leadership.

Covey’s high school success propelled his move to college-level football, committing to the University of Utah where he played for the Utah Utes. Despite being a true freshman, his talent earned him starting positions in eight games, and he made appearances in twelve. His records were impressive, including 43 catches for 519 yards and four touchdown caches. His outstanding freshman season earned him several accolades, cementing his status as a rising football star.

Despite his promising career as a footballer, Covey stepped away from the sport for two years to undertake a LDS mission in Chile. The hiatus did little to dampen his passion and skills as he bounced back in 2018 with an explosive comeback. He started in four games and featured in thirteen others, earning first-team, all-conference honors for his return play. This was capped by a team lead in receptions, receiving yards, and yards per game.

Following a torn ACL in the Pac-12 Championship Game, Covey missed the subsequent bowl games and had to redshirt most of the 2019 season. After playing only four games, he focused on his academics and earned a place on the Pac-12 All-Academic Honor Roll selection.

Covey’s triumphant return in a COVID-19 shortened 2020 season saw him regaining form and making a significant impact on the field. He made 19 receptions for 264 yards and scored the highest, three touchdowns for his team. His subsequent senior year in 2021 proved to be another high-scoring season, culminating in him being named to CBS Sports and Phil Steele First-Team All-American.

On concluding his college career, Covey’s records included all-time team highs in punt return yards, punt returns, catches, and all-purpose yards.

Despite not being selected in the 2022 NFL draft, Covey signed with the Philadelphia Eagles as an undrafted free agent. His time with the Eagles has been marked by consistent high performance, even leading to his participation in the coveted Super Bowl LVII.
