BIOGRAPHY
Born on June 6, 1989, in Stephenville, Texas, Cody Michael Davis is a highly respected former NFL safety with an impressive football career. Davis clocked in professional hours for the St. Louis Rams, the Jacksonville Jaguars, and the New England Patriots, proving himself a vital player at each club. An extraordinary talent both within and outside the lines of the football field.
A sports enthusiast from a young age, Davis’s love for football came to life at Stephenville High School. He led the school to a remarkable 33-5 record during his three-year tenure as a defensive backfield starter. His high school football careeer, filled with accolades, was capped off with his selection to the Associated Press Class 4A Second Team All-State and being voted District 8-4A Defensive MVP for his senior season. His junior season was highlighted by an impressive stat line of 99 tackles, 21 pass break-ups, and seven forced fumbles, earning him the First-team Class 4A All-State pick by both the Associated Press and Texas Sport Writers’ Association. His devotion to his school and a stunning track record earned Davis a spot in the Stephenville High School Hall of Fame in September 2014.
Davis’s consistent performances set the stage for a successful college football career at Texas Tech. His senior year in 2012 saw him named 1st Team Capital One Academic All-American and he earned a Second-team All-Big 12 selection for the second consecutive season. Davis’s phenomenal college career was marked by starts in 49 games, demonstrating an unwavering commitment to the sport and his team. His record included an impressive tally of 84 solo tackles and 101 total tackles in his senior year. His junior year in 2011 saw him named Academic All-Big 12 First Team and he led the team in tackles while making important contributions with 72 solo tackles and 21 assisted tackles.
In spite of being undrafted in the 2013 NFL Draft, Davis’s undeterred spirit led him to sign as a free agent with the St. Louis Rams in April 2013. Showing his sheer diligence, he signed a two-year extension with the Rams in 2016. A thigh injury in Week 6 of the 2017 season saw Davis placed on injured reserve but he quickly bounced back, rejoining the active roster by the end of the year. His ability to surpass physical limits saw him sign with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2018 and the New England Patriots in 2020.
Davis’s tenure with the Patriots was a testament to his dedication to the sport. Even though he faced another injury setback in October 2020, he was back in action again by the end of the month. He demonstrated his game-changing ability in the game against the LA Chargers when he blocked a field goal that resulted in a 44-yard touchdown by Devin McCourty. It was during the 2022 season that Davis suffered a season-ending knee injury and had to be placed on injured reserve.
Regaining strength, Davis re-signed with the Patriots in March 2023 on a one-year contract extension. The same year, he was placed on the reserve/PUP list to start the season, but was activated back by October, scoring his first career touchdown later that year, marking another milestone in his football career. However, after an illustrious career spanning over a decade, Davis announced his retirement from professional football in March 2024.
Outside the field, Davis has a beautiful family, marrying his longtime girlfriend, Ashley Reeves, in April 2013, and together they have three sons. An active Christian, Davis is a devoted supporter of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. He also enjoys giving back to the community, appearing on CBS’s The Price Is Right in February 2017 during Celebrity Charity Week where he secured a $5,000 win with the help of Chris O’Donnell. This chapter of commitment, dedication, and resilience, depicts Cody Davis’s life story – a story of a gifted athlete with an unfaltering spirit and determination to excel.
