Aldrick Rosas's Biography

Aldrick Rosas, born December 30, 1994, is an American professional football player known for his work as a placekicker. His family’s heritage is Mexican-American, and he played college football for the Southern Oregon Raiders of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA).

Rosas was faced with adversity early in his career when he tore his ACL in 2014 during the NAIA Championship Game. Despite missing the 2015 season due to the injury, he remained committed to his football career and chose to forego the remainder of his college eligibility to pursue his dreams in the National Football League (NFL).

The turning point of Rosas’s career arrived in 2016, not from a drafted team, but from the Tennessee Titans who signed him as an undrafted free agent in May. However, his tenure with the Titans was brief, as he was waived by them in September 2016.

Undeterred by this setback, Rosas signed a reserve/future contract with the New York Giants in January 2017. After the departure of former Giants’ placekicker Robbie Gould, Rosas was the sole kicker on the squad, up until the signing of veteran Mike Nugent in August 2017. Despite this competition, Rosas won the starting kicker job after Nugent was released during the final roster cut.

The beginning of the 2017 season had Rosas experiencing a mix of personal and professional milestones. He converted his first NFL career field goal in the Giants’ season-opening loss to the Dallas Cowboys while also witnessing the birth of his child via FaceTime with his girlfriend, Tiffany Lopez.

Although Rosas finished the season with underwhelming statistics, he managed to retain his starting position for the 2018 season. This decision proved fruitful as Rosas displayed a vastly improved performance, converting 32 of 33 field goal attempts and 31 of 32 PATs.

These accomplishments earned him the title of NFC Special Teams Player of the Week for his Week 13 performance against the Chicago Bears, where he set a franchise record with a 57-yard field goal. This successful season culminated in him being named to his first Pro Bowl in December 2018 and being a Second-team All-Pro for 2018.

Despite facing legal issues in 2020, where he was charged with three misdemeanors, Rosas bounced back professionally. He was signed to the Jacksonville Jaguars’ practice squad in September 2020 and was quickly elevated to their active roster. During his time with the Jaguars, Rosas scored four field goals debuting against the Cincinnati Bengals.

After spending time with the New Orleans Saints in 2021, and overcoming a subsequent release, he was signed to the Detroit Lions practice squad in November 2021. His performance led to him being offered a reserve/future contract with the team in February 2022. Despite this promising development, Rosas was released in May.

As of September 2022, Rosas has been signed back to the practice squad. His professional journey underlines the volatile yet inspiring world of professional football, demonstrating a dogged determination to overcome setbacks and pursue his passion. With a rich lineage and compelling story, Rosas is undoubtedly a significant personality in American football.
