Albert Wilson's Biography
Albert Wilson, an NFL athlete, was born on July 12, 1992, in Port St. Lucie, Florida. He was one of the best children in the neighborhood who took football seriously, and he later became a beacon of hope to young football aspirants.
Wilson attended Port St. Lucie High School, where his stunning speed and explosive athleticism caught the attention of his football coach. In his senior year, he helped his team clinch the district title, establishing himself as a critical asset. Despite his accomplishments on the field, Wilson faced turbulent periods off the turf, bouncing between 11 foster homes throughout his childhood. Despite these uncertain circumstances, Wilson remained focused on his goals, practicing and working hard to improve his game.
After his exceptional performance in high school football, several colleges showed interest in recruiting him, but he ultimately decided to attend Georgia State University. There, he showcased excellent play, earning a spot on the All-Sun Belt Conference First Team in his junior and senior years. In his four years at Georgia State, Wilson recorded a total of 6,235 all-purpose yards and 31 touchdowns.
Despite his collegiate success, NFL scouts overlooked him because of his relatively small size for a wide receiver. However, the Kansas City Chiefs did not overlook his innate talent and grit, signing him as an undrafted free agent in May 2014. Wilson’s electrifying speed and agility made him an immediate standout on the team.
In his rookie season, Wilson played mostly on special teams, but starting from his second season, he began to see more action as a wide receiver. He is known for his remarkable ability to run after the catch, often eluding defenders with his quick moves. In the four seasons with the Chiefs, he recorded 124 receptions for 1,544 yards and seven touchdowns.
However, in 2018, he made a decision to move on from the Chiefs and signed a three-year deal with the Miami Dolphins. With this move, he saw the most productive season in his career, accumulating 391 yards and 4 touchdowns on 26 receptions in just seven games. Unfortunately, a hip injury cut his season short.
In addition to his on-field achievements, Wilson has also made significant impacts off the field. He established the Albert Wilson Foundation in 2016 with a mission to support children in the foster care system. This foundation is built on Wilson’s own childhood experience in foster care. Through this foundation, he has empowered many children, providing support, encouragement, guidance, and resources to help them reach their full potential.
Not forgetting his roots, in 2018, Wilson donated $50,000 to his old high school to help upgrade their facilities. He also invests time in visiting schools and talking with students about the importance of education and perseverance.
Due to his hip injury, Wilson opted out of the 2020 season amid the Covid-19 pandemic. However, he was re-signed to a one-year contract by the Dolphins on March 4, 2021, signaling his return to the gridiron and continuing his football journey.
From growing up in multiple foster homes to becoming an undrafted free agent and then a star NFL wide receiver, Albert Wilson’s journey has been filled with relentless determination and resilience. He is indeed a testament to the belief that no matter how tough one’s past or present circumstances, the future can be shaped by hard work and perseverance. Today, Albert Wilson is not only a valued athlete but also a pillar of the community making a significant difference in the lives of those less fortunate through his foundation. Albert Wilson is not just a football player; he’s an inspiration.
