D'Moi Hodge's Biography
D’Moi Hodge is an outstanding professional basketball player hailing from the British Virgin Islands. Born on December 20, 1998, D’Moi is recognized for his exceptional gameplay in the Greek Basketball League (GBL) and EuroCup, where he features for Aris Thessaloniki.
Born in Tortola, British Virgin Islands to Courtney Hodge and Cleopatria King Defreitas, D’Moi discovered his interest in basketball at a pretty young age. He would regularly play on a community court behind his house along with his cousins and friends. This early exposure to basketball was the initiation of his illustrious journey in the sport.
Moving to the United States as a teenager, D’Moi later returned to the British Virgin Islands; homesickness led him back to his hometown after just a year. However, by the age of 17, D’Moi decided to migrate back to the U.S. to broaden his horizons and pursue opportunities that couldn’t be availed back at home.
The ambitious basketball player spent his senior high school year at Faith Baptist Christian Academy in Ludowici, Georgia, where his shining talent began to attract national attention. With his unparalleled skills and leadership on the court, D’Moi earned league MVP and championship MVP honors during his tenure at Faith Baptist Christian Academy.
Despite his impressive performance in high school basketball, D’Moi did not receive much attention as a college basketball recruit from significant recruiting services. This did not deter him. He began his college basketball career at New Mexico Junior College (2017-18), where he redshirted and later transferred to the State College of Florida for the 2018-19 season.
At the State College of Florida, D’Moi rose to prominence as one of the country’s top junior college players. Over his two seasons there, he delivered an impressive average of 22.3 points per game, establishing his authority on the court. D’Moi was awarded various honors, including places on the FCSAA All-State and NJCAA All-Region VIII team. Furthermore, in Junior College Recruiting Rankings, Hodge was ranked as the 11th-best JUCO player nationwide.
Transferring to Cleveland State University after two successful seasons at the State College of Florida, D’Moi joined the NCAA Division I level competing Cleveland State Vikings. His spectacular performance in a game against Purdue Fort Wayne on December 20, 2020, where he notched 46 points, seven rebounds, three assists, four steals, and one block, set new records for the Cleveland State basketball program and carved a name for him.
Following his two incredible seasons at Cleveland State, he moved to the University of Missouri for his graduating year. He acquired an impressive average of 14.7 points per game. As the second leading scorer on the Tigers behind Kobe Brown, he led the Tigers to a victory in the 2023 NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament’s first round.
Undrafted in the 2023 NBA draft, D’Moi signed a two-way contract in July with the Los Angeles Lakers. Subsequently, on November 4, he made history by becoming the first British Virgin Islander to ever play in the NBA. He was part of the Lakers team that clenched the inaugural 2023 NBA In-Season Tournament.
In early 2024, D’Moi was waived by the Lakers and shortly after, was picked up by the South Bay Lakers. Later that month, D’Moi was traded to the Rip City Remix in exchange for a 2025 first round pick.
In August, D’Moi signed with the Greek club Aris Thessaloniki. With much anticipation and hope for greatness, D’Moi Hodge continues to make his mark on the international hoops with his remarkable skills, persistent hard work, and passionate dedication to the sport of basketball.
