Cam Reddish

Cameron Elijah Reddish, commonly known as Cam Reddish, is a noteworthy figure in American professional basketball. Born in Norristown, Pennsylvania on September 1, 1999, Reddish’s journey in basketball began at a young age, paving the way for a successful career in the National Basketball Association (NBA), where he currently plays for the Los Angeles Lakers.

Reddish’s athletic pursuits began when he was enrolled as a freshman at the Haverford School in Haverford, Pennsylvania. Within the space of a year, he decided to transfer to the Westtown School located in West Chester, Pennsylvania. It was here that he joined forces with fellow five-star recruit and future NBA player, Mohamed Bamba. The duo began to make waves, with Reddish impressively averaging 16.2 points per game as a junior and guided the Westtown Moose to a Friend’s School League trophy.

Summer 2017 proved to be a particularly pivotal period in Reddish’s evolution as a young basketball player. During this time, Reddish showcased his talent on the Nike EYBL Circuit, averaging an astonishing 23.8 points, 7.6 rebounds and 3.1 assists for Team Final, his Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) team. He then translated his skills onto the international arena, starring for the United States men’s national under-19 basketball team.

As he progressed into his senior year, Reddish left no stone unturned in carving his name amongst high school basketball’s brightest prospects. On average, he scored 22.6 points and claimed 5.6 rebounds per game. His performances did not go unnoticed, and he was eventually named the 2018 Mr. Pennsylvania Basketball. Moreover, he was selected to feature in the prestigious 2018 McDonald’s All-American Game, Jordan Brand Classic, and Nike Hoop Summit All-Star games.

Following his fruitful high school career, Reddish was highly sought after and was eventually ranked as the third-best player in the 2018 class by ESPN and 247Sports. On September 1, 2017, alongside fellow top-3 prospects, RJ Barrett and Zion Williamson, he committed to attend and play for Duke University.

Following his commitment to Duke, Reddish made his debut for the Duke Blue Devils on November 6, 2018, contributing 22 points to a 118-84 victory against Kentucky in an exhilarating Champions Classic match-up. Over the course of the next few months, he continued to exhibit a basketball prowess ahead of his years. In total, he featured in 36 games, averaging 13.5 points, 3.7 rebounds and 1.9 assists per match, with a three-point range shooting percentage of 33%. His impact did not go unrewarded, and Reddish was honored with a spot on the All-ACC Honorable Mention team.

With his college career behind him, Reddish declared himself eligible for the 2019 NBA draft, taken on June 20, 2019, by the Atlanta Hawks as the 10th overall pick. His professional NBA debut took place on October 24, 2019, in a striking 117–100 win for the Hawks over the Detroit Pistons. Over the course of his time in Atlanta, Reddish honed his skills further, eventually scoring a career-high 36 points in a game against Orlando Magic in December 2021.

Despite his accomplishments with the Hawks, his time in Atlanta came to a close in January 2022 after being traded to the New York Knicks. However, injuries limited his performance with the Knicks, and he was largely on the sidelines during his stint there.

Reddish’s NBA journey then took him to the Portland Trail Blazers in February 2023, as part of a four-way trade involving the Charlotte Hornets and the Philadelphia 76ers. This transition allowed him to prove his mettle even further, before eventually signing with the Los Angeles Lakers in July 2023. With the Lakers, he continued to showcase his basketball prowess, contributing to the team’s victory in the inaugural season of the NBA In-Season Tournament in December 2023.

Through his unwavering dedication and exceptional skills, Cam Reddish has carved his name into the annals of professional basketball. Despite the ups and downs, his journey remains a testament to his unyielding commitment to the game. Born to parents Zanthia and Robert Reddish, who himself was a college basketball player at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), it seems that basketball is in Reddish’s genes. His younger brother, Aaron, follows in his footsteps, currently playing as a junior for the Albany Great Danes, having previously played for NBA player Collin Sexton’s former team, the Pebblebrook Falcons in Mableton, Georgia. His remarkable story continues, marking an indelible impact with every dribble, pass, and jump shot.
