BIOGRAPHY
Joselyne Edwards is an American professional mixed martial artist and kickboxer who currently competes in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). She made her professional MMA debut in 2012, earning a victory over Amy Montenegro. Since then, she has defeated some of the top fighters in the women’s flyweight division, including Montana Stewart, Jessica-Rose Clark and Andrea Lee.
Edwards was born on May 17th 1988 in Los Angeles California to Mexican immigrant parents. Growing up she was always surrounded by physical activity as both of her parents were very active members of their respective churches; her mother running marathons while her father competed in cycling competitions. This naturally led to Edwards pursuing a passion for sports at an early age; taking part both recreational soccer and gymnastics activities before transitioning to boxing when she was fourteen years old.
At seventeen Edwards began formal training at The Freestyle Martial Arts Academy under coach Anthony Brown where she trained alongside future UFC Featherweight champion Max Holloway. In 2008 she graduated high school and went on to study Criminology & Psychology at California State University Northridge from 2009 until 2012 when during her senior year left university with just two months remaining before graduation due complete focus on becoming a professional fighter which had become increasingly difficult whilst juggling university studies too.
In April 2011 it was announced that Joselyne would compete for Resurrection Fighting Alliance with whom she compiled an undefeated record of 4 wins out 5 bouts all finishes before being signed by the UFC late 2016 following impressive performances against Jackie Yap & Marilia Santos . On August 29th 2020 Joselyne faced Joanne Calderwood for TUF 27 Finale where despite being taken down three times throughout all five rounds ultimately lost via split decision after delivering a strong standup performance throughout much of fight night Now back preparing for next challenge ahead Williams remains optimistic about what lies ahead “I’ve worked really hard since my last fight & now I believe I can make it into top 15″
Despite this setback Joselyn remains dedicated to achieving success within the promotion having recently received praise from Dana White regarding commitment determination inside octagon “She’s never given up pushing forward no matter what happens”. With three victories thus far only time will tell if these attributes are enough take notch position amongst worlds best flyweights but regardless outcome ultimate goal never changes “My main objective stay competitive excel reach highest levels competition
