Dustin Poirier is an American former professional mixed martial artist from Lafayette, Louisiana. He competed professionally from 2009 through 2025, first appearing in the UFC on January 2, 2011. Poirier fought primarily at lightweight after an earlier UFC run at featherweight and trained at American Top Team in Coconut Creek, Florida. The UFC lists him at 5 feet 9 inches, with a 72-inch reach, a southpaw stance and a jiu-jitsu-based fighting style.

Poirier became one of the UFC’s leading lightweight contenders and won the interim UFC Lightweight Championship by defeating Max Holloway at UFC 236 on April 13, 2019. He later fought for the undisputed lightweight championship against Khabib Nurmagomedov, Charles Oliveira and Islam Makhachev. His notable UFC victories included wins over Eddie Alvarez, Justin Gaethje, Conor McGregor and Michael Chandler. His style combined southpaw boxing, pressure, durability and Brazilian jiu-jitsu, making him effective in extended striking exchanges as well as grappling situations.

Poirier retired from competition after facing Holloway for the third time at UFC 318 in New Orleans on July 19, 2025.
