Diego “The Nightmare” Lopes is a Brazilian mixed martial artist, currently competing in the bantamweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). Born on October 12th, 1992 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Diego was raised by his mother and father. Growing up he had an interest in martial arts which led him to train Jiu-Jitsu for six years before transitioning into MMA at age 17.
His professional career began shortly after when he made his debut against Adriano Fonseca at Aspera FC 7: Summer Fight 4 where he won via unanimous decision. After racking up wins over 6 more opponents, Lopes signed with UFC in 2018 and made his promotional debut against Marlon Vera at UFC Fight Night 139 where he again won via unanimous decision.
In 2019 Diego earned a victory over Manny Bermudez before suffering back-to-back losses to Mario Bautista and Cody Stamann respectively. He rebounded from these defeats with victories over Davey Grant and Montel Jackson both of which earned him Performance Bonuses. Most recently Lopes fought Give chase Sherman at UFC 254 where he lost via unanimous decision but still went down swinging as both fighters were awarded fight night bonuses for their efforts.
Despite being only 28 years old, Diego has nearly 10 years of experience under his belt having competed professionally since 2009 and officially joined the UFC roster just two short years ago in 2018! In that time frame it’s clear that has well established himself as one of the top contenders within the bantamweight division with a record of 11 wins 5 losses 1 draw across 16 appearances throughout various promotions including KSW and Brave CF prior to joining UFC . Such success has given him significant attention among fans who appreciate seeing someone continually progress no matter what obstacles are presented along their journey!
Outside of fighting inside The Octagon™ , Diego is also involved with other activities such as training fighters from all different levels ranging from professional athletes to beginners looking to start out in MMA . Additionally , during recent interviews when asked about what got him interested in martial arts despite growing up without any sort of background or exposure towards them he emphasized how many aspects come into play such as discipline , humility , respect for yourself & others along side physical fitness which ultimately lead him towards finding true passion & joy through this combat sport .
