BIOGRAPHY

Born on May 30, 1988, Virna Carole Andrade Jandiroba is a Brazilian mixed martial artist (MMA) who competes in the strawweight division of the UFC. Her early exposure to the martial arts world began with training in kung fu during her childhood. Later on, she turned her interest towards Judo and Brazilian jiu-jitsu. She continued her training diligently, earning a black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu, paving the way for her journey into mixed martial arts.

In 2013, Jandiroba kick-started her professional MMA career primarily in Brazil, putting up an impressive undefeated show of 11 victories before she signed a contract with the Invicta Fighting Championships, a premier platform for women’s MMA.

She made her Invicta debut on December 8, 2017, at Invicta FC 26: Maia vs. Niedwiedz, competing against Amy Montenegro. Showcasing her skills and fierce determination, Jandiroba triumphed in the first round with an armbar submission, marking a notable beginning in Invicta.

Her chance to compete for the Invicta Strawweight Championship came in the form of a match against Janaisa Morandin scheduled on March 24, 2018, at Invicta FC 28: Mizuki vs. Jandiroba. However, the unexpected withdrawal of Morandin due to a tooth infection saw the entry of Mizuki Inoue as a replacement. Jandiroba seized the opportunity and emerged victorious in a split decision, capturing the Invicta FC Strawweight Championship.

She successfully defended her newly-acquired title only months later against Janaisa Morandin at Invicta FC 31: Jandiroba vs. Morandin on September 1, 2018. An excellent performance resulted in her submitting Morandin in the second round, retaining the coveted Strawweight Championship title.

Her remarkable performance in Invicta paved the way for her entry into the UFC. On April 27, 2019, Jandiroba made her UFC debut at UFC Fight Night: Jacaré vs. Hermansson, where she replaced an injured Lívia Renata Souza to face Carla Esparza. Unfortunately, her first UFC fight ended in a unanimous decision in favor of Esparza. Though a tough blow, she viewed this loss as a stepping stone towards improvement and better performances.

Over the years, Jandiroba built a formidable track record. On August 15, 2020, her victory over Felice Herrig at UFC 252, earned her the Performance of the Night award. In a string of other fights, she won some, lost some but remained resilient, putting forth strong performance after performance. She faced significant fighters such as Mackenzie Dern on December 12, 2020, at UFC 256, Kanako Murata on June 19, 2021, at UFC on ESPN 25, Amanda Ribas on October 30, 2021, at UFC 267, and Angela Hill on May 14, 2022, at UFC on ESPN 36.

In a thrilling match against Marina Rodriguez in UFC 288 on May 6, 2023, Jandiroba’s skills championed her through with a unanimous verdict. She was eager to put her training to the test against Tatiana Suarez, scheduled for August 5, 2023, but an unfortunate knee injury and following surgery led to her withdrawal and replacement.

As of September 19, 2023, Jandiroba is ranked as the #6 women’s strawweight fighter in UFC rankings. Currently, she is gearing up to face Loopy Godinez on March 30, 2024, at UFC Fight Night 239, ready to exhibit her martial arts prowess and further escalate her MMA journey. Through her career, Virna Carole Andrade Jandiroba has proven herself as a talented and determined fighter, and the world of mixed martial arts continues to watch her thrilling journey.
