BIOGRAPHY
Xavier Crawford, a decorated football cornerback born on December 10, 1995, presently occupies his status as a free agent in the American professional football realm. His journey in football began at the advent of college days, where he honed his skills at Oregon State and Central Michigan. It was during these formative years that he began shaping his football prowess, showcasing a potent mix of athleticism and strategic acuity that would soon catch the attention of major players in American football.
Inevitably garnering national recognition and widespread acclaim, Crawford was propelled into the limelight in the 2019 National Football League (NFL) draft. Marking a significant milestone in his aspiring career, he was selected by the reputed Houston Texans securing the 195th position overall in the sixth round of selections. However, his tenure with the Texans was short-lived as he was waived on the 26th of October in the same year.
Undeterred by the early severance, Crawford bounced back swiftly. On October 28, 2019, a mere two days following his release from the Texans, he got claimed off waivers by the Miami Dolphins. Despite a brief stint with the Dolphins, he was waived on November 30, 2019, and then re-signed to the practice squad. His time with the Dolphins came to an end on December 5, 2019.
Hardly missing a beat, Crawford was onboarded into the Chicago Bears practice squad on December 9, 2019. Just shy of the end of the year, on December 30, 2019, he signed a reserve/future contract, signifying hope for a resurgent stride in the forthcoming year.
After facing the hurdle of being a final roster cut on September 5, 2020, Crawford beat the odds, earning a spot on the practice squad the very next day. He was then escalated to the active roster on multiple occasions in December 2020 and January 2021 for games against major leagues like the Minnesota Vikings, Jacksonville Jaguars, and the Green Bay Packers. However, this would be followed by a reversion to the practice squad after each game.
Adding another chapter to his resilient journey, Crawford signed yet another reserve/futures contract with the Chicago Bears on January 11, 2021. Towards the close of that year, on December 29, Crawford’s career took an unexpected turn as he was placed on injured reserve.
In 2022, Crawford was signed by the Jaguars on March 24. However, his stint with the Jaguars ended on a brief note when he was waived on August 30, 2022. Yet, Crawford’s journey did not end there. He was signed by the Seattle Seahawks practice squad on September 1, 2022. He was promoted to the active roster later that month, only to be released on October 11. Despite this setback, Crawford’s determination won as he was again re-signed to the practice squad. On December 27, Crawford was promoted once again to the active roster, demonstrating his unwavering determination and resilience in the face of professional ups and downs.
