Drew Lock

Andrew Stephen Lock, born November 10, 1996, has made a name for himself as an American professional football quarterback. With a current affiliation with the National Football League’s New York Giants, Lock has an impressive career that began with the University of Missouri’s Missouri Tigers.

Born and raised in Lee’s Summit, Missouri, Andrew Lock attended the local Lee’s Summit High School, where he manifested his football ingenuity early on. He delivered impressive performances, passing for 3,060 yards and 35 touchdowns as a junior and advancing to pass for 2,731 yards and 28 touchdowns as a senior in 2014. Recognizing his commendable performances, the Kansas City Star selected Lock as the All-Metro Player of the Year. Besides football, Lock had a flair for basketball and was considered a two-star basketball prospect. However, he decided to hang tight to his football dream and put his basketball career on hold after high school.

Lock’s elite talent caught the interest of the University of Missouri, where he committed to play college football. His freshman performance did not disappoint and served as a testimony of his grit and potential. Lock emerged as the first student since 1995, to start at quarterback while still in his freshman year, when he played against South Carolina. His performance, particularly his phenomenal passing, soon thrust him into the limelight. His sporting excellence remained consistent throughout 2016 and 2017, leading to his rank as second in the Southeastern Conference in passing yards.

Entering his senior year, Lock led Missouri to a 3-0 start, showcasing his prowess with 11 passing touchdowns against UT Martin, Wyoming, and Purdue. The 2018 season ended with Lock boasting 28 passing touchdowns and eight interceptions, alongside six rushing touchdowns. The journey till now had shaped Lock to be one of the top picks in the 2019 NFL draft.

Living up to his reputation, Lock was picked by the Denver Broncos in the second round of the 2019 NFL draft. However, an unfortunate thumb injury during the preseason led him to be placed on injured reserve for some time. Despite the injury, Lock’s performance against the Houston Texans on his return was unfaltering. He threw three touchdowns in the game’s first half and created a scoring drive in the second half.

Lock’s stint with the Broncos was not void of challenges. The 2020 season was marked by several injuries and setbacks, leading to an unimpressive performance. The 15 interceptions in that season were the highest for any quarterback with at least 150 passing attempts.

Despite the challenges, Lock did not let his spirit falter. He entered into a fierce competition with Teddy Bridgewater, who joined the Broncos in 2021. However, Bridgewater emerged as the starter for week one, which disappointed Lock. He did get to play against the Baltimore Ravens after Bridgewater was injured, but he couldn’t manage to secure the game.

In the subsequent year, Lock was traded to the Seattle Seahawks in a blockbuster deal, changing his jersey number to signify a fresh start and respect for previous quarterback, Russell Wilson. But history seemed to repeat itself, as Geno Smith was named Seahawks’ starter. Reduced to playing in injured quarterbacks’ relief, Lock displayed a varied performance throughout the season.

In spring 2024, Lock signed a one-year deal worth $5 million with the New York Giants. Despite being anticipated to compete fiercely with Daniel Jones for the starting quarterback job, Lock has shown clear signs of delivering extraordinary performances in his own unique style.
