Tyler Conklin

Tyler Conklin, an American professional football player famed for his tight end role, was born on July 30, 1995. His football journey weaves through various institutions and across different states, demonstrating his unceasing journey to perfect his craft. Currently, Conklin upholds a critical role as a tight end for the New York Jets, a prominent team in the National Football League (NFL). His entry into professional football has been marked by significant milestones that include initially playing college football at Northwood and then at Central Michigan. Formerly a student of L’Anse Creuse High School-North located in Macomb Township, Michigan, Conklin forged his athletic career by proving himself a formidable talent in two sports- football and basketball. He demonstrated exceptional skill as a wide receiver in football while simultaneously taking on the role of combo guard in basketball. His prowess in basketball was particularly evident in his junior year when he propelled his team to the Class A Final Four. Despite their 59-46 semifinal defeat to the eventual state champion Saginaw High, Conklin stood out by scoring 22 points.

Upon his high-school graduation, Conklin had displayed sufficient basketball proficiency to earn a full-ride scholarship to Northwood University. Even though he graced their basketball courts for just one semester, he made noticeable contributions in the seven games he partook in. His average game statistics included 2.6 rebounds, 1.9 points, and 1.4 assists. However, his love for football made him take the significant decision of transferring to Central Michigan University. Given his lean physique for a tight end player, Conklin willingly sidelined himself in his initial season with the Chippewas, channeling his focus toward weight gain.

Entering 2015, Conklin had successfully gained 25 pounds. His new physical mass secured him a backup role, which saw him catching six passes for 95 yards. His football career, however, witnessed its first significant challenge in August 2017. During the first one-on-one training camp drill, Conklin suffered a bone break in his left foot. Overcoming adversity, he returned to the field in October, setting new career highs. His game against Ohio had him catching 10 passes for 136 yards and scoring two touchdowns, contributing to a 26-23 victory.

Conklin’s talent was recognized on a national level when he was invited to the 2018 Senior Bowl in Mobile, Alabama. Here, he caught two passes, which included a remarkable 16-yard touchdown pass thrown by Wyoming quarterback Josh Allen. At the 2018 NFL Combine, Conklin performed exceptionally, ranking second among all tight ends in vertical, fourth in broad jump, fifth in the three-cone drill, and ninth in the 40-yard dash.

His college achievements fetched him a spot in the 2018 NFL draft, where he was selected by the Minnesota Vikings in the fifth round. In May that year, Conklin signed a four-year contract with the team worth $2.741 million, with an included signing bonus of $281,032. His debut on the field was against the San Francisco 49ers, where he had one reception for six yards. His first career touchdown came during Week 15 of the 2020 season against the Chicago Bears. This game witnessed him recording three catches for 57 yards during a 33-27 loss.

In 2022, Conklin signed a three-year, $21 million contract with the New York Jets, marking a significant milestone in his career.
