Scott Daly's Biography
Scott Daly’s Journey to the NFL: A Comprehensive Biography
Scott Daly was born on February 7, 1994, in a country where Football was celebrated as a religion. This young man from an Irish descent would grow up to play this sport and make a remarkable contribution to it as a professional player.
For as long as he can remember, Daly has always been passionate about American football. His journey into the world of professional football began in the fifth grade when he first started long snapping. As a student at Downers Grove South High School, he played as a tight end and also handled the team’s long snapping duties. His exceptional performance in junior year got him All-Conference and honorable-mention All-Area honors.
Senior high school years were pretty eventful for Daly as he nailed his first career touchdown in the season opener. His extraordinary long-snapping skills gained him the title of the national high school long snapper of the year. Not only this, but he was also ranked the number one long snapper in the nation by Scout.com. This promising player, in April 2011, made a significant decision and committed to the University of Notre Dame.
Embarking on a new journey in the University of Notre Dame, Daly accepted a football scholarship. Unfortunately, his first 2012 season as a freshman was uneventful as he did not get an opportunity to play behind Jordan Cowart.
However, 2013 brought a beacon of hope for the then sophomore. Daly was named the team’s long snapper for all thirteen games, with notable contributions including his post of two special teams tackles. His junior year in 2014 saw him being flawless on 127 snapping opportunities.
Exhibiting phenomenal performance consistently, Daly started all 13 games during his senior year in 2015. He had a perfect play on 126 snapping opportunities, and also contributed significantly to Justin Yoon’s successful freshman All-American season. October 31 saw him posting his first special teams tackle since 2013 against Temple University, while on November 21, he made the highlight by recovering a fumble in a game against Boston College. After playing a total of 39 games during his college career, Daly was set to embark on his NFL journey.
In a surprising turn of events, Daly was not selected in the 2017 NFL draft but got an invitation for a rookie minicamp tryout with the Chicago Bears in May. Although rookie was unsuccessful in being signed to a contract, he remained determined.
In 2018, Daly signed as a free agent with the Dallas Cowboys. Unfortunately, he was waived after being unable to pass stalwart starter L.P. Ladouceur on the depth chart. Subsequently, Daly moved on to sign with the San Antonio Commanders of the Alliance of American Football where he remained until the league ceased operations in April 2019.
The year 2019 found Daly being drafted by the New York Guardians of the XFL. Yet, things took a downturn in April 2020 when his contract was terminated due to the suspension of the league’s operations.
Undeterred, Scott Daly joined the Detroit Lions as a free agent on May 4, 2021. His perseverance and determination landed him the long snapper job. Surpassing 17-year veteran Don Muhlbach on the depth chart were indications of his persistent efforts and tenacity. However, during the 2024 training camp, Daly faced a challenge in rookie Hogan Hatten, who surpassed him on the depth chart, leading to Daly’s release.
However, luck ensued when Scott Daly was signed to the Chicago Bears practice squad on August 29, 2024. His hard work and determination continued to pay off, and he was promoted to the active roster on September 14, concluding a long but fruitful journey in the world of professional football.
