BIOGRAPHY

Sam Mustipher (born August 13, 1996) is an American professional football player, currently a center for the Los Angeles Chargers of the National Football League (NFL). Drawing from the experiences he amassed during his time playing in high school, followed by Notre Dame and many esteemed teams within the NFL, Mustipher embodies the commitment, skills, and dedication essential to thriving in the world of professional football.

Born in 1996, Mustipher initiated his football journey at Our Lady of Good Counsel in Olney, Maryland, showcasing his skill sets on both the offensive and defensive lines. His senior years saw him earning coveted spots in both the Maryland consensus all-state team and the USA Today All-USA Washington D.C. team. These achievements reflect Mustipher’s exceptional on-field performance and contribution to his team. Graduating as a consensus top-250 national recruit, he secured his place in the Under Armour All-America Game in 2014, further cementing his rising status in the football industry.

Mustipher’s prowess made him a consensus four-star prospect attracting offers from 26 renowned football institutions, in which Alabama, Clemson, Ohio State, and Notre Dame are a few noteworthy mentions. After careful consideration, he committed to Notre Dame on April 16, 2013, signing his letter of intent during the February 2014 signing period. He enrolled in August, ready to step into the next phase of his football career.

Despite redshirting the 2014 season, Mustipher emerged strong in his sophomore season where he played in nine games, mostly as a special teams’ member and a reserve offensive lineman. Becoming a center in 2016, he started all 12 games, this exposure paving his way to increased field time and opportunities. Demonstrating strong leadership during his senior season in 2017, Mustipher started all 13 games, bolstering a rushing attack that amassed 3,503 yards and scored 35 touchdowns. His commendable performance did not rest here, in his 2018 graduate season, he was appointed captain and started all 12 games.

Mustipher entered the world of professional football when the Chicago Bears signed him as an undrafted free agent on May 2, 2019. Although waived during the final roster cuts on August 31, 2019, his talent shone through when he joined the practice squad the next day. Closing 2019 on a high note, Mustipher signed a reserve/future contract with the team on December 30. Yet again, he found himself amongst the last roster cuts before the 2020 season, returning to the practice squad the following day. However, his patience and perseverance paid off when he was promoted to the active roster in October 2020.

Mustipher’s professional debut occurred during Week 6, playing against the Carolina Panthers where he demonstrated his vitality as a special team’s unit. Following this, he got his first opportunity to showcase his offensive skills as a center in the succeeding week. Despite initially being considered one of the lowest-ranked players, Mustipher’s professional growth was evident, resulting in him signing with the Baltimore Ravens on May 15, 2023.

He was back to the practice squad and was elevated to the active roster twice in September before signing a one-year deal with the Denver Broncos on April 4, 2024. His time with the Broncos was short-lived, as he was released in late August and was promptly signed to the Los Angeles Chargers’ practice squad on August 28, 2024, where he presently continues his professional journey.

With his ever-evolving journey, Sam Mustipher is a testament to the sporting spirit of perseverance, showcasing that talent coupled with hard work and dedication forms the crux of a successful career in professional sport.
