Trestan Ebner’s journey from a small-town Texas high school player to a professional American football star personifies the evergreen mantra, ‘where there’s will, there’s way.’ Born on January 2, 1999, Trestan Ebner has left a notable footprint in American Football, having excelled as a running back and return specialist. Currently a free agent, his multi-faceted talents continue to attract intense interest.

Rooted in Henderson, Texas, Ebner’s football journey took off at Henderson High School, where he showed early signs of the star he would become. The senior year was a particularly momentous phase in his journey. Not only did he manage to receive 57 passes, but he also covered a significant 1,074 yards, leading his team to the endzone 16 times.

While many high school stars dither at the collegiate level, Ebner smoothly transitioned into college football with the Baylor Bears, building upon his high school experience. Even as a freshman, he actively participated in 11 games. In this period, he made an indelible impact by rushing for 121 yards, scoring two touchdowns, and clocking 20 successful catches for 267 yards, emerging as a key playmaker on three occasions.

Ebner continued to ascend in his sophomore year, achieving 413 yards and delivering a touchdown from 69 carries. This performance was complemented by his catch record – 29 receptions for 348 yards, culminating in a decisive touchdown. He displayed a consistent performance in his junior year, rushing for a substantial 250 yards and scoring three touchdowns. His steady progress made him a favorite among the coaches and fans alike.

The senior year welcomed Ebner with a new role – the kickoff return duties for Baylor. He swiftly adapted to this responsibility and delivered an extraordinary performance, returning 20 kicks for 612 yards and scoring two touchdowns. He also contributed 107 rushing yards and scored one touchdown. His performance did not underwhelm in the catch department as well; he amassed 26 passes for 299 yards, culminating in three touchdowns. This spectacular performance earned him the coveted Big 12 Conference Special Teams Player of the Year title.

The 2020 season saw disruption due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, Ebner decided to utilize the extra year of eligibility granted to college athletes. His fifth season at Baylor was no less eventful. He bagged his second consecutive Big 12 Special Teams Player of the Year award, solidifying his standing in collegiate history.

Notable for his strong performance and consistent dedication, Ebner was drafted with the 203rd pick in the sixth round of the NFL draft in 2022 by none other than the Chicago Bears. His rookie year saw Ebner primarily contributing to the special teams. He participated in all 17 matches and recorded 24 carries for 54 rushing yards. He also made two receptions for eight yards, showcasing his receiving skills.

Unfortunately, Ebner’s journey came to a pause on August 29, 2023, when he was waived/injured by the Bears. Nevertheless, this setback by no means implies an end to Ebner’s football journey.
