Michael Seth Brockers, born on December 21, 1990, is widely acclaimed as a pinnacle of American professional football. Having carved a name for himself as a formidable defensive tackle in the National Football League (NFL), Brockers retired from professional football leaving behind an illuminating career intertwined with resounding victories, hard-fought challenges, and significant contributions to the American football arena.

Raised in Houston, Texas, Brockers laid the cornerstone of his budding football career at the Chávez High School, where his exceptional talent as a two-sport athlete became evident. His prowess in football was equaled by his competence in track and field, participating in shot put and discus. Brockers displayed a sterling performance during his junior season having achieved 59 tackles and 10 sacks.

His senior year brought newfound heights of accomplishment. Brockers propelled the Chávez High School to the Texas Class 5A state playoffs’ first round, earning him first-team All-region and All-state laurels despite a narrow defeat with a score of 31-26 to Humble.

Lauded as a four-star recruit by Rival.com after high school, he secured the spot of the No. 10 strong side defensive end prospect across the nation. This won him a coveted scholarship from Louisiana State University (LSU), which he accepted over offers from prominent institutions like Texas A&M and Texas Tech.

At LSU, Brockers etched his prowess further into the football field from 2009 to 2011. Following a redshirt year, he graced all the 13 games of the 2010 season, LGazarius Levingston. Difference-making was a hallmark of Brockers, who had debuted by taking Alabama head-on, winning four tackles against them. In 2011, Brockers once again demonstrated his potential, starting all 13 games and achieving third place on the team with 9.5 tackles for loss. His commendable performance earned him a second-team All-SEC selection by the Associated Press.

In 2012, Brockers decided to let go of his eligibility for the next two years to join the 2012 NFL draft. This strategic move saw his selection in the NFL’s first round by the St. Louis Rams, marking him as the first defensive end enlistee that year. The Rams confirmed his worth by offering him a four-year $9.52 million contract that included a signing bonus of $5.36 million.

Brockers’ first season with the Rams saw him participate in 13 games, during which he bagged 33 tackles, four sacks, one defended pass, and one forced fumble, earning a spot on the PFWA All-Rookie Team. His feats only escalated in the following years, capturing remarkable successes in terms of tackles, defended passes, sacks, and forced fumbles.

The Rams faithfully picked up the fifth-year option of Brockers’s rookie contract in 2015, valuing his consistent contributions. By September 15, 2016, his sustained efforts were aptly rewarded with a three-year extension worth $33.125 million with a guaranteed $17 million.

In 2018, Brockers alongside the Rams earned the golden ticket to Super Bowl LIII after defeating the Dallas Cowboys and New Orleans Saints. The face-off with the New England Patriots, however, ended in a defeat.

The initial phases of the 2020 offseason had Brockers nearly signing a three-year, $30 million contract with the Baltimore Ravens, which eventually fell through due to concerns over his health. Subsequently, he rejoined the ranks of the Rams, signing a star-studded three-year, $24 million contract.

After a brief stint on the reserve/COVID-19 list in late 2020, Brockers was shifted off to the Detroit Lions in March 2021 for a 2023 seventh round pick. This switch was followed by a new contract that carried him through for another three years for a sum of $24 million.

However, his liaison with the Lions came to an end with his release on February 24, 2023. Following this, on May 14, 2024, the curtain fell on Brockers’ illustrious NFL journey as he announced his retirement after a remarkable 11 seasons.
