BIOGRAPHY

Lucas Carter Patrick, known to many as a skilled American professional football guard in the National Football League (NFL). Born on July 30, 1993, Patrick has carved a niche for himself in the world of professional football, displaying unwavering passion and dedication towards the sport. He is currently one of the elite guards playing for the New Orleans Saints, a position he has held since May 13, 2024, when he inked a year-long contract with the team.

Patrick’s journey into the world of professional football began in high school, at Brentwood High School in Brentwood, Tennessee. It was during this time that he developed into a remarkable football player, receiving the distinction of being a three-year letterman. His exceptional skills on the field earned him critical acclaim in his senior year in 2010, receiving Tennessee Sports Writers Association First-Team 6A All-State honors and making it to The Tennessean’s Dream Team. His leadership qualities weren’t hidden either as he played the role of a team captain. Patrick also showcased his skills at the Toyota Tennessee East vs. West All-Star Classic on December 11, 2010. His talents extended to track and field at Brentwood, which underscored his exceptional athleticism.

Post high school, Lucas Patrick secured a spot to play college football for the highly respected Duke Blue Devils of Duke University, where he lettered from 2012 to 2015. His tenure at Duke began with a redshirt in 2011 followed by a significant setback when he experienced a fractured left ankle. Despite the setback, Patrick recovered quite well after a surgery on March 24, 2012. Although he missed the initial eight games of the 2012 season, he bounced back to play 137 snaps in the final five games.

In 2014, Patrick played in all 14 games, starting in 1, and playing 340 snaps. One of his significant plays was during the Chick-fil-A Bowl where he substituted Perry Simmons as the right tackle. Patrick started 12 games as the left guard in 2015, played 1,067 snaps, and recorded one solo tackle. His commendable college career earned him honors including the Honorable Mention All-Atlantic Coast Conference and ESPN All-Bowl Team. His impressive college performances, 44 games, 26 starts, and 2,211 snaps played, culminated in Patrick playing in the Tropic Bowl, a prestigious college football all-star game in January 2017. He graduated from Duke in December 2015 with a history degree.

Despite not being drafted, Patrick’s career took a positive turn when he signed with the Green Bay Packers on June 1, 2016. Although initially waived by the Packers, he found his way back to the team within a couple of days. The following year, he made the Packers’ final roster, playing in 12 games and was a starting guard in two. His exceptional performances earned him a re-signing on March 13, 2018, and a two-year contract extension the following year.

Patrick continued to prove his merit in 2019 when he replaced an injured Corey Linsley at center during a significant victory over the Detroit Lions in Week 17. On March 16, 2022, Patrick signed a two-year contract with the Chicago Bears, announcing his intention to play as a center. He did exceptionally well during his time with the Bears, ascending to the starting job at center by Week 7 against the New England Patriots.

However, his time with the Bears was laden with challenges as he sustained a toe injury in the first quarter of the Week 7 game. This injury led to him being placed on injured reserve, thus ending his season prematurely. Despite the setback, Patrick returned for the 2023 season and played 15 games as the Bears’ starting center.

Lucas Carter Patrick’s ascendancy in American professional football showcases a tale of undeterred determination, invaluable experience, and absolute passion for the sport. Today, he continues to be a significant asset for the New Orleans Saints, constantly challenging his boundaries and setting new benchmarks in the professional football gridiron.
