Kayode Awosika

Kayode Awosika, an esteemed professional American football offensive tackle who was born on October 27, 1998, has reached noteworthy heights in his pro football career. With roots in Plymouth, Minnesota, Awosika was born to Nigerian immigrant parents and he has since built a name for himself in the heart of the National Football League (NFL), scoring significant accomplishments throughout his journey.

Awosika spent his high school years at Maple Grove Senior High School, where he emerged as a promising talent and demonstrated a unique prowess that would set the course for his future in football. His commendable performance earned him recognition, with him being named USA Today first-team All-Minnesota as a senior.

Awosika made his entry into college football with the University of Buffalo. Like most athletes bracing for future greatness, he redshirted during his freshman year. Despite this short pause in active play, Awosika’s redshirt-freshman year saw him participate in five games as a reserve offensive tackle, showcasing the potential he possessed. The following years featured a rise in his contribution to the team, starting all 14 games in his sophomore year and 11 in his junior year. Acknowledging his performance and leadership capabilities, Awosika was honored as team captain during his junior year and was also named second-team All-Mid-American Conference (MAC).

His senior year continued to underscore his potential as a football athlete; he started seven games and secured recognition as first-team All-MAC and as a Football Writers Association of America second-team All-American. After his senior year, Awosika chose to relinquish his remaining eligibility for college athletics, thus setting his sights on performing in the NFL Draft.

Although Awosika was not selected during the 2021 NFL draft, he was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Philadelphia Eagles — a turn of events that marked the onset of his professional career. The Eagles showed significant faith in Awosika, providing him with the second-most guaranteed money among their undrafted free agents, a fact that highlights the potential they saw in him. Initially, he was waived on August 31, 2021, only to be re-signed to the practice squad just one day later.

Awosika made his first NFL appearance on January 8, 2022, while playing for the Eagles against the Dallas Cowboys for the week 18 game. This was a major milestone in that it also made him the first Maple Grove High School graduate ever to play in the NFL. Shortly after this beginning, on January 18, 2022, he signed a reserve/future contract with the Eagles.

After a brief waive from the Eagles roster on August 30, 2022, Awosika found himself back in the practice squad the subsequent day. His relentless pursuit of his professional goals continued to bear fruit; on September 15, 2022, he was signed by the Detroit Lions from the Eagles practice squad. Though waived again on August 29, 2023, he was re-signed to the practice squad. Eventually, on September 19, 2023, Awosika was signed to the active roster.
