Josh Bynes's Biography

Joshua Bynes was born on August 24, 1989, and is a revered figure in American professional sports, known for his dominant career as a linebacker in football. At present, Bynes has taken on the role of a defensive assistant / linebackers coach for the Seattle Seahawks of the National Football League (NFL).

Hailing from Florida, Bynes began his college career at Auburn University, where he became a standout figure in college football. He was a central figure in the Auburn defense team for three consecutive years, earning Second-Team All-SEC honors as a senior. His senior year saw him record a team-high 73 total tackles, a feat that significantly contributed to Auburn’s national championship victory.

In 2011, Bynes participated in the NFL draft but went undrafted. On July 28 of the same year, he was signed by the Baltimore Ravens as an undrafted free agent under a three-year, $1.41 million contract.

During his training camp, Bynes competed for the position of a backup linebacker and special teams player against several other players. Despite seeing limited playtime in the Ravens’ first three preseason games, he seized an opportunity during the Ravens’ preseason finale and made an impressive ten solo tackles and two sacks in their 21–7 victory against the Atlanta Falcons. Ravens’ head coach John Harbaugh was notably impressed with his performance, stating, “Josh made a case for himself. He played very well. We have been impressed with him all through camp. He hasn’t had as many opportunities in games, but then last night he showed up.”

Despite this, Bynes did not secure a contract immediately and remained on the lookout for opportunities. His chance came in November 2011 when the Ravens signed him to their practice squad following injuries to key linebacker players Ray Lewis and Dannell Ellerbe. A few weeks after this, he was added to their active roster, then making his professional regular season debut during a 16–6 victory against the San Francisco 49ers in Week 12.

Bynes’ career was marked by numerous movements between teams, including the Detroit Lions, Arizona Cardinals, Cincinnati Bengals, and Carolina Panthers. He would navigate through several challenges as he continued to train and compete for positions in these teams.

His competence and drive made him a valuable asset to each team he joined. He saw his high points throughout his career, including his first career playoff game in 2013 and registering one tackle as the Ravens defeated the San Francisco 49ers 34–31 in Super Bowl XLVII. The following year, he was signed to a one-year, $480,000 exclusive rights tender by the Ravens.

Bynes’ nine-year NFL career included successful stints with the Detroit Lions and Baltimore Ravens, among others.
