BIOGRAPHY
Javin Durrell White, an American professional football linebacker and free agent, was born on February 21, 1997. This insightful biography provides an in-depth look into White’s journey from a promising high school athlete to a professional football player.
Born in San Diego, California, White was raised in Oakland. His early years were marked by a deep love for sports, most notably football, which took root in his high school years. During his time at Vanden High School in Fairfield, California and later at McClymonds High School in Oakland, White exhibited exceptional skill as a wide receiver, which later proved to be instrumental in his football career.
As a Senior at McClymonds, White showed immense talent, making 17 passes for 407 yards and eight touchdowns. His superior performance caught the attention of college scouts, transforming him into a three-star recruit. Despite receiving offers from New Mexico and New Mexico State, he chose to commit to the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, where he commenced his college football career.
Entering UNLV as an offensive player, White transitioned to being a defensive back in his freshman year. He was redshirted in his first year, meaning he practiced with the team but sat out during matches. This change in position opened new avenues for him as he played primarily on special teams in his redshirt freshman year.
White’s college career saw him evolve from strength to strength. The subsequent seasons witnessed him taking on more significant roles, starting off with a safety/linebacker hybrid position. Here, he started the final five games, amassing 42 tackles and intercepting two passes. As a redshirt junior, White led the team in all of UNLV’s games, making 74 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss, and two sacks.
Accolades followed; he was named an honorable mention in the All-Mountain West Conference as a redshirt senior after finishing the season with 79 tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss and three interceptions. Over five seasons, he became a mainstay of the UNLV team, appearing in 43 games and starting 29. White finished his collegiate career with 201 tackles, 18 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks, nine interceptions, 15 passes defended, seven forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery.
His grit and determination fueled his professional career. Despite going undrafted, White proved his mettle by eventually signing with the Las Vegas Raiders on April 25, 2020. Although he was waived during the final roster cuts, he was signed to the team’s practice squad the following day. The Raiders advanced White to the active roster on September 21, 2020, marking his debut on Monday Night Football against the New Orleans Saints.
Despite subsequent movements between the active roster and the practice squad, White remained focused, showcasing his skill during weeks 11, 15, and 16 against the Kansas City Chiefs, Los Angeles Chargers, and Miami Dolphins. Promoting him to the active roster, the Raiders signed him to a reserve/future contract on January 5, 2021.
After being placed on the injured reserve on September 2, 2021, a brief stint on the active roster was interrupted by his release on November 1, before his rehiring to the practice squad just three days later. This tumultuous period ended with the New York Jets signing White off the Raiders’ practice squad in late December 2021. However, his journey with the Jets was short-lived, and he was waived in July 2022.
White then signed with the Chicago Bears in August 2022. An injury led to his release later that month and he was placed on the injured reserve. White’s versatility and resilience saw him move into the United States Football League (USFL), signing with the Michigan Panthers in October 2023.
Despite his contract with the Panthers being terminated by July 2024, White remained undeterred. He re-signed with the Chicago Bears that same month, only to be waived just over a month later. Despite these challenges, it’s clear that White’s determination, resilience, and sheer skill in the sport continue to pave the way for his career in football, reflecting his talent and commitment to the game.
