Evan Engram

Evan Michael Engram, born on September 2, 1994, in Powder Springs, Georgia, is an American professional football player known for his exceptional skills as a tight end. His illustrious football career began at a young age, when he played high school football at Hillgrove High School in his hometown Powder Springs. His athletic prowess became evident when he was named a unanimous first-team All-Southeastern Conference selection.

Engram, taking his talent to the collegiate level, enrolled at the University of Mississippi where he played college football for the Ole Miss Rebels. His phenomenal performance in his four-year career saw him complete 162 receptions for 2,320 yards, a 14.3 yard average, and 15 career touchdowns. In his final year at Ole Miss, Engram made significant contributions to the team, netting 926 yards and eight touchdowns on 65 receptions. In recognition of his brilliant performance, he was bestowed with the prestigious Conerly Trophy.

After college, Engram received an invitation to the Senior Bowl; his notable performance contributing to the South’s victory over the North. His exceptional skills and dedication also garnered the attention of the NFL, and he underwent the NFL Scouting Combine drills, with sports analysts predicting him to be a promising first or second-round draft pick.

In the 2017 NFL draft, Engram’s abilities were acknowledged by the New York Giants, who selected him with the 23rd overall pick in the first round. His selection was instrumental in reinforcing the Giants tight end core, which the previous season had only managed to secure just three touchdown receptions. On June 15, 2017, Engram officially became a part of the Giants, signing a four-year contract worth $10.71 million.

Engram’s sterling performance during training camp earned him the first string tight end position, formerly belong to Larry Donnell. Even though his inaugural professional regular season match against the Dallas Cowboys resulted in a loss, Engram managed to make four receptions for 44 yards, marking his professional debut. His first game also saw him snag his first career touchdown.

The subsequent year, Engram continued to build his reputation, making 45 receptions for 577 yards and three touchdowns despite struggling with injuries. The next season showcased his first career 100-yard game, followed by a six-pass catch game for 113 yards, including a 75-yard touchdown contributing to a Giants victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

In 2020, Engram’s fifth-year option on his contract was picked up by the Giants, guaranteeing him $6.013 million for the 2021 season. Despite facing some challenges throughout the season, he was named to his first career Pro Bowl for achieving 63 receptions for 654 yards and a touchdown.

Engram’s time with the Giants ended in 2021, signing a one-year contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars on March 16, 2022. His time with the Jaguars began promisingly, with Engram scoring his first touchdown as a Jaguar during a Week 8 game. His performance continued to improve, recording career-highs and contributing significantly to the Jaguars’ victories.

On March 6, 2023, the Jaguars placed their franchise tag on Engram, indicating their confidence in his abilities. They later signed him to a three-year, $41.25 million deal that included $24 million in guaranteed money. The following year saw Engram achieve yet another career milestone: he became the eighth tight end in NFL history to record over 100 receptions in a season. Despite suffering a hamstring injury in September 2024, Engram was named to the 2024 Pro Bowl Games as an alternate.
