Alex Singleton is a dynamic and versatile football player in the National Football League (NFL), currently playing as a linebacker for the Philadelphia Eagles. Alex Singleton began his professional football career in 2015 when he was signed by the Seattle Seahawks as an undrafted free agent. He was then signed by the New England Patriots, but once again, he was waived during final team cuts.

In 2015, Singleton grabbed the opportunity to play north of the border in the Canadian Football League (CFL) when he was drafted by the Calgary Stampeders. He played 54 games with the Stampeders, recording 322 defensive tackles, 17 special teams tackles, four sacks, one interception, and six forced fumbles. His remarkable stint with the Stampeders earned him the CFL’s Most Outstanding Defensive Player award in 2017, notably making him the first American to win the award in 37 years. During his time at the CFL, Singleton led the Stampeders to a Grey Cup championship in 2018, proving as a key asset for the team.

Singleton’s outstanding performance in the CFL caught the attention of the NFL, and in 2019 he got another chance to break into the league, signing with the Philadelphia Eagles. He started as a special teamer, but by 2020, he had solidified his position as a full-time defensive starter. Singleton was known for his athleticism, reading of the game, and the ability to make key plays. In the Eagles’ problematic 2020 season, Singleton was one of the shining spots. He had a breakout year making 120 tackles, two sacks, two fumble recoveries, and an interception returned for a touchdown.

Born to an athletic family where his mother competed in figure skating and his father in ski racing, Singleton has sports ingrained in his DNA. His sister, Ashley Singleton, has Down syndrome, and Alex Singleton went on to become an advocate for people with Down syndrome and special needs. His advocacy work for special needs persons includes his close association with the Special Olympics.
