BIOGRAPHY

Dominique Robinson is an American professional football player who was born on July 2, 1998. He is prominently known as a defensive end for the Chicago Bears of the National Football League (NFL). With an unconventional path to the NFL, he had carved his mark through the football ranks. The journey, which started in the bylanes of an Ohio high school, transcended his academic stages at Miami University then flourished into a fulfilling professional career.

Robinson was bred in Canton, Ohio, where he first graced the football field and the basketball court during his high school days at Timken High School. His ancillary abilities became evident during his tenure as the starting quarterback on the football team. However, following the merger of Timken with Canton McKinley High School, Robinson envisaged a conspicuous future in basketball, not foreseeing an ensuing turn of events. This came in the form of persuasive counsel from Dan Reardon, the head football coach of McKinley, who implored that Robinson remain a part of the team. Consequently, Robinson dedicated a significant chunk of his high school years to honing his football skills.

A formidable player, his abilities were assessed as a two-star recruit. Though Miami University was the only Division I FBS program to extend him a scholarship offer, Robinson chose to remain confident about his prospects. Upon starting college, the coaches at Miami University proactively helped Robinson determine his chart of progress. They facilitated a change in his position from quarterback to wide receiver to capitalize on the potential for more playing time. During his sophomore year, Robinson displayed his innate abilities by catching 13 passes for an aggregate of 156 yards. This performance was highlighted by him scoring four touchdowns.

During Robinson’s junior year, he maintained an average of 21.1 yards per catch, covering a total of 296 yards over 14 receptions. This marked a gratifying phase of his college career. However, upon his ascension to the senior year, Robinson opted for another major change. He decided to try his hand at the defensive end position due to his falling position in the wide receiver hierarchy. Despite playing just three games of the COVID-19-impacted Miami’s 2020 season, Robinson showcased his defensive acumen with two sacks and 2.5 tackles for loss. Eager to build on his performance, he opted to exploit the extended eligibility provided to college athletes pertaining to the worldwide coronavirus pandemic and returned for a fifth season at Miami.

This proved to be a statement season for Robinson, as he recorded 28 tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss, and 4.5 sacks. His compelling performance earned him a spot in the third team of the All-Mid-American Conference in 2021. His remarkable performance in college bore fruit when he was drafted 174th overall by the Chicago Bears during the fifth round of the 2022 NFL draft.

Robinson’s NFL debut on September 11, 2022, was nothing short of spectacular. Playing under the prominent banner of the Chicago Bears, he recorded 1½ sacks in the team’s victory against the San Francisco 49ers. This was the most sacks by a rookie in a season debut for the Bears since 1987, a distinct achievement validating Robinson’s could bear the brunt of professional football.

Off the field, Robinson is a devout Christian and is married to his wife, Emma. The Robinson family has a sporting history, with his father, Anthony Robinson, having played college basketball at Bowling Green. Moreover, his brother Jasper was also a college football player at Kent State before a back injury prematurely ended his career. Despite the odds, Dominique Robinson stood tall amidst his peers, becoming a high-performance NFL player with a dynamic future ahead waiting to be written.
