Dee Delaney's Biography

Dee Delaney, a remarkable professional football player, was born on February 20, 1995. Today, he continues to set a high bar, pursuing numerous opportunities as a naturally gifted free agent who has played college football for both The Citadel Bulldogs and the Miami Hurricanes.

Delaney grew up in Beaufort, South Carolina where he honed his athletic talents early on. His dedication to sports and physical prowess led to his recognition as an accomplished athlete at Whale Branch Early College High School. While attending this school, Delaney received an impressive 14 varsity letters in an array of sports, comprising football, basketball, baseball, and track. With his competent abilities as a wide receiver and kick returner, Delaney’s exceptional skills won him the title of Region Offensive Player of the Year during his senior year and earned him an invitation to the coveted North-South All Star Game. But Delaney’s talent wasn’t limited to football. His performance in basketball and baseball also earned him All-Region selection, with additional recognition in the form of a first-place victory for his 4×100 relay team in the Class A state championship track team.

Having notable achievements under his belt, Delaney moved on to join The Citadel for his collegiate career, where for three years he was a stellar performer. Due to his unrelenting dedication and consistent performance, he was honored as a 3-time All-Southern Conference selection. Delaney’s exceptional skills as a player were also recognized with two Walter Camp Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) All-American titles. More accolades came his way when he was named on the Associated Press FCS All-America team and received All-America honors from College Football Madness, STATS, Athlon, and HERO. His 13 interceptions while at The Citadel placed him in an esteemed position, coming second in the school’s history.

After graduating, Delaney decided to play for the University of Miami as a graduate student, utilizing his remaining year of eligibility. Starting six games for the team, he made one interception and recovered a fumble. This goes to show his invaluable contribution in advancing the Hurricanes to the Atlantic Coast Conference Championship Game. Consequently, the Hurricanes then played against Wisconsin in the Capital One Orange Bowl.

Delaney’s professional sports career launched when he signed a free agent contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars on April 28, 2018. Despite not making the Jaguars’ 53-man roster out of training camp, he was reassigned to the team’s practice squad on September 2. His noteworthy performance landed him a promotion from the practice squad to the Jaguars’ active roster on October 25, 2018. His debut in NFL happened just three days later, with a game against the Philadelphia Eagles at Wembley Stadium in London. However, after being waived off and then re-signed back to the Jaguars’ practice squad, he was promoted back to the active roster on December 1, 2018. After a brief two-day period, he was waived again.

The Miami Dolphins claimed Delaney off waivers on December 4. However, just four days later, he was removed from the Dolphins and re-signed to their practice squad. Things started looking rather promising when he signed a reserve/future contract with them on February 1, 2019. But, barely three months later, he was waived again.

Despite the hiccups, Delaney persevered and was signed by the New York Jets on July 30, 2019. A setback occurred when he was waived by the Jets on August 26, 2019. However, Delaney’s resiliency shone through when he joined the Washington Redskins on December 24, 2019. His tenure with the Redskins was short-lived as he was released on March 23, 2020.

Delaney then signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on May 25, 2021, where he got his first professional start on October 24, 2021, against the Chicago Bears and caught his first career interception.

In the future, on May 16, 2024, Delaney signed a contract with the Buffalo Bills. Unfortunately, he was placed on injured reserve on August 25, and released the following week. As of now, he remains a free agent with significant contributions to American football and a zeal to continue pushing the boundaries of his sports career.
