BIOGRAPHY
Davontae Harris, born on January 21, 1995, is a highly adept and professional American football cornerback who has made significant contributions to the sport. Currently a free agent, his journey in football took off in Wichita, Kansas, where he attended high school at Wichita South High School. His robust performance during the high school years accelerated his career leading him to play college football at Illinois State, where he rigorously honed his skills and mastered the nuances of the game.
During the 2018 NFL draft, Harris was selected by the Cincinnati Bengals in the fifth round as the overall 151st player. However, his career met an obstacle when he was sidelined due to a knee injury. He was placed on injured reserve on September 3, 2018, leading him to withdraw his participation temporarily. Displaying strong willpower, he recovered from his injury and was activated off injured reserve on December 5, 2018.
As the 2019 season bloomed, Harris was waived during the final roster cuts on August 31. Yet, unbeknown to him, this acted as a launching pad for his impending success. On September 2, 2019, Harris was signed by the Denver Broncos, marking a new chapter in his football career. He played consistently throughout the season, participating in all 16 games with six starts in 2019. His commendable performance led to a record of 35 tackles and three-pass deflections.
Harris reaffirmed his position as the fourth cornerback for the Broncos as the 2020 season began. However, his journey encountered a speed bump when he was waived by the Broncos on November 17, 2020. Adding a twist to his journey, Harris was claimed off waivers by the Baltimore Ravens the very next day.
During his stint with the Ravens, he saw game-time against tough opponents like Pittsburgh Steelers and the Dallas Cowboys. Yet, his game-time was cut short by injuries, and he was later placed on injured reserve on December 21, 2020. Despite being waived in January 2021, the Ravens re-signed him the following month. However, his journey with the Ravens ended in August 2021.
In an interesting turn of events, the San Francisco 49ers claimed Harris off waivers on August 17, 2021. Despite dealing with injuries and a brief stint on the injured reserve, he was activated in October. Though he was released, he was quickly signed back to the practice squad.
In late 2021, Harris was signed by the Los Angeles Chargers off the 49ers practice squad. After a stint with the Chargers, he moved to play for the Chicago Bears in August 2022, only to be released in the same month. A lifeline came in the form of the team’s practice squad the next day, but this was short-lived as he was released in November.
Yet, every setback turned into a setup for new breakouts, and on November 15, 2022, Harris was signed to the Tennessee Titans practice squad. His consistent rigorous practice was finally rewarded when he was promoted to the active roster on December 17, 2022.
Not just known for his on-field performance, Harris is also celebrated for his off-field acts of kindness. Shortly after signing his rookie contract, he began contributing to his hometown, Wichita, Kansas. He has been selflessly donating school supplies to the Wichita Children’s home. Furthermore, he announced that he is open to accepting donations, reflecting his philanthropic personality. Davontae Harris’s journey is a commendable story of resilience, amidst the whirlwind of opportunities and challenges in his professional football career.
