BIOGRAPHY
Damarea Crockett’s journey and experiences are deeply linked to his professional football career in American and Canadian football leagues. Born on December 22, 1997, he is a native of Arkansas and got his start in football at a young age. He is majorly recognized as a professional running back for the BC Lions of the Canadian Football League (CFL).
Crockett’s initial exposure to football was at Little Rock Christian Academy in Little Rock, Arkansas. Here, he made a resounding impact in his senior season, where he rushed for 1,475 yards and scored 22 touchdowns on 227 carries. These achievements contributed to the Warriors advancing to the home field advantage playoff run, which unfortunately concluded in the semi-finals against their in-state rivals, Pulaski Academy.
After committing to play at Boise State University, Crockett decided to complete his education at the University of Missouri. As a freshman in 2016, he had a groundbreaking start to his college football career, playing in 11 out of 12 games. His freshman year records included a seasonal rushing setback of 1,062 yards, ten rushing touchdowns – the most in a season, and the highest rushing yards in a single game, which was 225. Despite a minor setback, a marijuana possession charge that got him suspended for the last game of the season, Crockett continued to make major career strides.
His sophomore year in 2017 was somewhat challenging. Starting the year as Missouri’s primary running back, he fell out of the season after only six games due to a shoulder injury. Despite this drawback, he still managed to rush for 481 yards and two touchdowns on eighty carries in these six matches.
2018 marked an important year for Crockett. As a junior, he returned resiliently from his previous injuries, participating in Missouri’s initial 11 games before unfortunately experiencing toe and ankle injuries that saw him sidelined in the last two matches. His efforts during the season included his performance of 709 yards rush and seven touchdowns on 147 carries, proving his dedication to his sporting career despite adversity.
After his fruitful college football run, Crockett declared for the NFL draft in 2019. He was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Houston Texans following the draft. Unfortunately, he was waived during the final roster cuts on August 31.
His professional run continued in the Oakland Raiders practice squad, where he was signed on September 2, 2019. A quick shuffle happened as he was eventually released on October 14, and then promptly signed to the Green Bay Packers practice squad two days later. On January 21, 2020, a reserve/future contract was guaranteed to Crockett by the Packers, only for him to be waived on September 5, 2020. Despite this, he got signed onto the practice squad the following day.
Crockett’s career continued with a brief period at the Denver Broncos practice squad. Signed on October 22, 2020, he was shortly after issued a reserve/future contract on January 4, 2021. Over the course of 2021 to 2022, he experienced several shifts on and off the practice squad, up to the active roster, and then back to the practice squad. Despite several unsettling moves, he inked another reserve/future contract with the Broncos on January 10, 2022.
His tenure with the Broncos came to an abrupt end when a torn ACL eliminated his run during a training camp practice alongside Tim Patrick on August 2, 2022. This unfortunate incident led to his placement on injured reserve on August 3, 2022, and subsequent waiver on June 5, 2023.
Crockett continued on his professional football journey in July 2023, signing with the New York Jets. Despite his short stint here due to a release on August 17, 2023, his journey did not stop there.
On April 2, 2024, Crockett recommitted to his professional football career, signing with the BC Lions in the Canadian Football League. On May 12, 2024, however, he faced the challenge of a suspension from the CFL.
Overall, the admirable football journey of Damarea Crockett underlines the resilience and determination of a player determined to make his mark, despite the various challenges met along the way. His football career continues to inspire, reflecting the game’s many ups and downs and a testament to his enduring spirit.
