BIOGRAPHY
Bobby Green, born September 9, 1986, is a professional mixed martial artist (MMA) from the United States. Currently, he is one of the top fighters in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), competing in the lightweight division.
Green was born in San Bernardino, California and grew up in a tough neighborhood. MMA gave Green an outlet to channel his energy and keep away from the negative influences surrounding him. Though he did not have an easy childhood, Green credits his tough upbringing for his determination and persistent attitude.
He attended Santiago High School where he began to test the waters of competitive wrestling. At the age of 18, after being kicked out of his house, he began training in MMA as a means of survival. This decision led him to start his professional career with a local fight club in the Inland Empire, California in 2008.
Green quickly emerged as a highly promising talent in MMA, earning victories over distinguished fighters in smaller promotions. His talent and tenacity caught the attention of Strikeforce, a major MMA organization, which he joined in 2009. Here, he battled against several top opponents and further honed his skills. However, it was his move to the UFC in 2013 that truly skyrocketed his fame.
His debut in the UFC came at a short-notice fight against Jacob Volkmann, where he stunned audiences with a submission victory. Green continued to impress, achieving a winning streak that included victories over Pat Healy – a former Strikeforce competitor, and Josh Thomson – a former Strikeforce lightweight champion. This winning streak catapulted him into the UFC’s top 15 lightweight ranking.
Over his career, Green has become known for his high pressure style, which combines wrestling, boxing and Brazilian jiu-jitsu fighting techniques. His aggressive approach, quick reflexes, and creative tactics make him a formidable opponent.
However, Green’s career has also been marked by numerous injuries and cancellations that have kept him from maintaining a consistent fight schedule. Despite these setbacks, his undeniable skills and perseverance have always granted him a return to the ring.
Beyond the UFC, Green has utilized his prominence to speak out against social and racial inequality. He has consistently used his platform to raise awareness and initiate discussions on these critical issues. In 2020, he was praised for his powerful speech on racial unity following his winning fight against Clay Guida.
In addition to his social activism, Green also juggles the responsibilities of being a father. He has four adopted children, including his younger siblings, whom he took custody of to prevent them from entering the foster care system.
As of present, Green continues to solidify his position in the UFC lightweight division. Despite his ups and downs, he remains a formidable force in the ring. Besides, he’s also hoping to make his mark in the sport by training younger fighters and helping them navigate their way to success.
In conclusion, Bobby Green embodies the never-give-up spirit of a true fighter. His journey from a rough childhood to becoming one of UFC’s noted competitors is nothing short of inspiring. While he still has much more to accomplish in the sport, Green’s impact inside and outside the ring is commendable.
