Umar Nurmagomedov is an undefeated professional mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter from Dagestan, Russia. He is currently signed to the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). Umar has established himself as one of the most promising prospects in the division and holds a stellar 9-0 record.

Umar was born on Oct 28th, 1993 in Makhachkala, Dagestan, Russia. His father was a wrestler who taught Umar and his brother Khabib Nurmagomedov freestyle wrestling since he was young; this led him to start competing at national events as early as 11 years old. At 16 years old, Umar began training MMA with his brother’s team at their now infamous “Eagle’s Gym” in Kizlyar and soon competed in local amateur tournaments all over Russia.

At 20 years old he began professional MMA competition after signing up for Fight Nights Global promotion where he racked up an impressive 5 wins before earning himself a spot with the UFC roster in 2018 when they absorbed Fight Nights Global fighters into their ranks.
