BIOGRAPHY

Fabricio Werdum is a Brazilian mixed martial artist, who has competed in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), and is one of the most successful heavyweight fighters in MMA history. He made his UFC debut at UFC 90 in 2008 and went on to become the undisputed heavyweight champion at UFC 188.

Werdum has been competing professionally since 2002 and has earned numerous titles throughout his career. In 2006 he won the Abu Dhabi Combat Club (ADCC) submission grappling world championship, becoming only the second Brazilian to win it after Royler Gracie. Later that same year, he was crowned as the inaugural Jungle Fight Heavyweight Champion. His first taste of success came from professional Pride FC where he fought under their banner from 2005-2007, where he compiled an impressive record of 7 wins and 3 losses with notable victories over Fedor Emelianenko, Gabriel Gonzaga and Vitor Belfort among others. He holds black belts in Judo, jiu-jitsu and Muay Thai kickboxing which have all contributed towards making him one of fighting’s most versatile athletes today.

In 2008 Werdum signed with UFC and captured their interim heavyweight title after beating Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira at UFC 90 by armbar submission in round 2 – a fight which saw him become only the third man ever to submit ‘Minotauro’ inside an octagon cage. He ultimately lost this title against Cain Velasquez but would later go onto reclaiming it; firstly winning back his interim belt with a unanimous decision victory over Mark Hunt before going on to becoming undisputed champion upon defeating former Strikeforce Heavyweight Champion Alistair Overeem via kimura submission at UFC 188 during 2015 – cementing himself as one of MMA’s greatest heavyweights ever..

Outside of fighting Fabricio enjoys spending time surfing or playing beach volleyball when not training for his next fight – activities which help relax him away from competition while providing balance between athletics & home life prior to stepping inside any octagon cage again
