Trayvon Sentell Mullen Jr. is a significant name in the field of American professional football. Born on September 20, 1997, he currently stands as a cornerstone cornerback for the Baltimore Ravens of the National Football League (NFL). Marked by his acute athleticism and sportsmanship, Mullen’s journey to NFL stardom has been filled with challenges and triumphs alike.

A coveted athlete during his high school years, Mullen attended Coconut Creek High School where he proved himself a star performer. Excelling as a two-way player, he showcased his skills at both wide receiver and cornerback positions. Senior year saw him accumulate 45 receptions for 800 yards, which remarkably, averaged at 17.8 yards. Such performances didn’t go unnoticed as he was honored with second-team USA Today All-American recognition and was invited to play at the U.S. Army All-American game.

Regarded highly by experts and sports journalists, ESPN rated Mullen as the number two cornerback in his class. Proving himself as a coveted player, top-ranked schools such as LSU, Florida State, and Alabama presented Mullen with scholarship opportunities. Despite the choices in hand, Mullen chose to continue his career at Clemson University, where he made a mark nationally on signing day.

Mullen’s freshman year at Clemson saw him easing into the fierce competition, recording 15 tackles and one pass-breakup, even making seven tackles against South Carolina State University. His performances led to his inclusion in the victorious team against the University of Alabama in the National Championship Game.

His experience as a freshman paved the way for his sophomore year when Mullen got significantly more playing time. His stats revealed an undeniable growth with 42 tackles, three interceptions, and seven pass breakups in just 13 games. Audiences took notice as he got seven tackles and his first career interception against Boston College, and the nine tackles and one pass, defensed against North Carolina State University. The Hallmarks of his sophomore year included an Honorable Mention All-ACC honor.

As a junior, Mullen collected 37 tackles, with four designated for loss, made one interception, four pass defenses, and two sacks in 15 games. Even through an injury, which reduced his play to only two snaps against Wake Forest University, Mullen’s tenacity shone through. His outstanding performance in the National Championship Game against the University of Alabama saw him receiving the Defensive MVP honors, while his senior year was left unexplored as he decided to declare for the 2019 NFL draft.

Post declaration, Mullen was selected in the second round, 40th overall, in the 2019 NFL draft by the Oakland Raiders. His pro games saw him making commendable strides in the field, registering 50 tackles, 10 passes defensed and one interception. Against the Cincinnati Bengals, Mullen’s interception off Ryan Finley was recorded as his first in the NFL, leading to the Raiders’ 17–10 victory.

Mullen’s career took an unexpected shift in 2022 when the Raiders made a surprising move to trade him to the Arizona Cardinals in exchange for a seventh-round pick. Despite contributing significantly to important games, the Cardinals waived Mullen following a blow to the team caused by his costly facemask penalty in a game against the New England Patriots.

Swiftly moved off waivers, Mullen was claimed by the Dallas Cowboys where he served as a backup cornerback and provided depth at the cornerback position following the injury of key team members. However, his stint with the Cowboys was short-lived as he was released in early 2023.

Post-release, Mullen was claimed off waivers by the Baltimore Ravens, initially providing support for the team. Mullen re-signed with the Ravens in March 2023 but, in a surprising turn of events, was later released with a non-football injury designation in July 2023. After a year, in August 2024, he was placed on both the non-football injury list and injured reserve.
